WEEK 2 ACTIVITIES (Second Law of

Thermodynamics)

DIRECTIONS: ON A SEPARATE SHEET OF PAPER OR A SEPARATE FILE ,

ANSWER THE TASKS AS INSTRUCTED:

Learning Task 1
An increase in entropy denotes a spontaneous reaction. To help you
understand better what entropy is, do the following procedures.
1. Get 10 marbles and put in a small bag.
2. Bring out the 10 marbles from the bag and throw them on
the floor.

Guide Questions
1. What is the condition of the marbles in the bag?
2. What is the condition of the marbles thrown on the floor?
3. After throwing the marbles on the floor, do their conditions
tell of the disorder of the marbles?
4. If throwing the marbles is analogous to a natural event and
the marbles represent particles or molecules in the
process, describe what happens to the particles or
molecules in a spontaneous process.

Learning Task 2
Ageing is a natural process that every human person experiences. It is a
biological reality that some embraces and other fear of.
Your task is to interview three persons and ask them of their opinions
on ageing. Reflect on these opinions and relate the process to second
law of thermodynamic. Write everything on the template below.
