I just completed the painting project within 6 days. Just wanna share the process. A full disclosure, I'm not an expert in
painting miniatures. Just an ordinary hobby board gamer who has an 8-5 job and limited time to paint.
Day 1: Priming/ Pre-paint
First day is always the prime day!

I also painted the walls, trees...etc. Anything basic stuff.

Day 2, 3, & 4: Shading/ Washing

I used the dipping technique so I can shade faster. I used two:
Civic buildings : The Army Painter Soft tone
Any other buildings: The Army Painter Dark tone

You have to make sure to shake the bottle a lot before you use the varnish,

After you dipping your miniature, make sure to shake it so you don't just waste the liquid. Use cotton swabs to clean up the
walls so it doesn't look too dirty. You have about a minute to clean up before you enter the "sticky" stage. Once it enters the
sticky stage, I strongly recommend not to use cotton swabs because it will literally take all the hair out of your cotton swab.

For bigger miniatures, I had to pour them on top of a plastic tray lid and pour them back.

If you have a sensitive nose like I do, make sure to do this project outside with an industrial-grade mask on.

It's IMPORTANT to dry the washed miniatures for at least 24-36 hours to remove the stickiness away. I put mine in the
garage with a mini fan because the varnish smell is very strong.
Day 3 & 4: Painting

I simply painted the roofs (or is it rooves?..hah!) and minor parts. I understand many roman structure used red for their roof
color, but I wanted it to be more "Age of Empires II" style where each player building will be distinguished by their player
color.

Now you may ask, why didn't I painted the roof before I shade? While I wanted everything to look "realistic," I still wanted to
focus more on gameplay. I personally believe any tile placement games (or area majority games) need to have their player
color stick out. For example, Eric Lang's CMON area majority games have nice rings that go w/ your miniatures so you can
easily identify each player color. Sometimes it's easier to strategies with the colors more recognizable. If you shade or
varnish the roof, it'd be a lot harder to distinguish player colors.

Day 5: Finalizing. Adding grass?

I had some leftover grass from other paint projects...so why not?
Day 6: Top coats. More upgrades..

I used a matte top coat spray because the varnish made it look too shiny.

If you mess up your paint or shade...you can always start over! I use super clean degreaser whenever I mess up or want to
start over. You need to pour the degreaser in the plastic tray (soup tray is good) and sink your mini in for about 2 hours.
Then you can gently brush out the paint & primer with a toothbrush.

I didn't like the plastic cover on the player markers. I think it's silly to put cover on top of other cover...well that's a discussion
for another day. Anyways, I used 6x3mm magnets and magnet tape. Two magenets on each player piece and used the glue
gun to fill.

Nice, I haven't played yet but won't having red roofs (rooves ) on both the red players and those other pieces be a might
confusing ? Like I said I've not played so maybe not. Either way they look great

Good question. I don’t plan on playing this game with 5 people. So whenever we play with the Monument expansion, I won’t
play with the red color.
