Auto-DTED
– SOCET GXP searches DTED
Directories set in Preferences to
automatically load the highest quality
terrain file associated with the loaded
image
1. Click the Add Path button
2. Navigate to a directory containing
DTED terrain files
• Hint: click on Desktop under Favorites
3. Click Select Folder to close the
Browse window

– DTED Cache Generation Job creates a


text file with the locations of terrain
data so SOCET GXP and find it faster
– When adding new terrain, run Cache
job again

• Legacy Visual Coverage Tool (VCT) is still available from the Tools menu

– Map View displays footprints for Images, Terrain, Maps and Charts, and Vectors
that are cataloged or currently loaded in the Workspace

– Search Tools
• Refresh: refreshes results
• Clear Results: clears check boxes
• Jump to Point: type coordinates to jump to within map scene

– Navigation Tools
• Glove: click and drag map background
• Mouse: roam in the direction of cursor movement
• Zoom to Box: zoom to the extent of selected box
• Minus: zoom out
• Plus: zoom in
• Whole Scene: zoom out to view the entire map area

– Production Tools
• PowerPoint: creates PowerPoint slide displaying the current map view, including footprints
• Save Footprints: saves data footprints as shapefiles

Map View - Catalog


– Catalog will appear with a green dot when
running
– Directories can be cataloged during installation of
Advanced Services (on application disk)
– If running in basic mode (no services installation),
catalog must be running to choose directories
1. In Map View, right-click on the catalog name and
select Start Catalog
• Catalog may take a few seconds to fully start
2. Right-click on the catalog name and select VCT
Catalog Setup
3. At the top, choose to discover all available file
types
4. Navigate to a data directory
5. Click Apply and OK

Map View
1. Ensure the Images from the catalog are displayed by checking the box
2. Select an image in the map view display
3. Right-click on the selected image and select Balloon Preview Panel
• A balloon is displayed showing an image thumbnail and some image metadata
4. Select an image in the preview balloon and select Load into Workspace to
load the data directly from the balloon

– Footprints for specific data types are toggled on and off using the check boxes in
the Layers list
• Workspace data footprints are shaded; Catalog footprints are empty polygons
– Right-click on the Workspace Layer and select Zoom to Workspace to zoom to the
extent of the data contained in the Workspace
– Right-click on a layer within the Workspace to Zoom to Layer and change footprint
display properties
• Labels can be added to the footprints to identify the data selected

Image List
– The Image List tool allows users to
quickly toggle between images in the
Workspace
– Loads one image at a time and then
dumps from memory; less resource
intensive
1. Load a variety of data into the

Multiport (ex: Multiport_1)
• The image will open within a separate
panel in that Multiport

Data View to the Windows View and

Renaming Multiports
– To help keep track of what is in each
Multiport, SOCET GXP 4.0 allows
users to rename Multiports

– To rename a Multiport:
1. Right click on a Multiport listed in the
Windows View of the Workspace
Manager
2. Select Rename
3. Type a new name for the Multiport
4. Click OK

– The new name appears in the


Workspace Manager, along the top of
the Multiport, and in the Windows Task
Bar

Displaying Data - Stereo


1. Select two images in a stereo pair by
holding CTRL or SHIFT
2. Right-click and select Open> Stereo
• If no stereo viewing equipment is
available, choose Split Screen Stereo
3. View the image on the stereo monitor
with the stereo glasses

– When images are displayed in Stereo,


a Stereo tab is available, containing
stereo specific tools
– Move the cursor in the Z direction using
a 3D extraction device or by holding
shift and rolling the middle mouse
wheel

Save Workspace
– Workspaces saved as .wksp files
– Workspace saves include:
• All loaded data
• All open Multiports and Panels
• Processing chains
• Display location and zoom level of each panel
• Roam history (snail trails)
• The location and size of all open windows

1. Save the workspace from the File menu by


selecting Save Workspace As
• The Save button on the Workspace toolbar is also for
Workspace saves
– Graphics files must be saved separately by
right-clicking
• It is recommended to save them to the same
directory as the workspace

– Main Tabs: always available


– Contextual Tabs: display only when specific data types are loaded into the

Adding tools to the QAT


1. In any open Multiport, from the Home tab, right-click on the Zoom to Box
button and select Add to Quick Access Toolbar
2. From the Products tab, right-click on the PowerPoint button and select Add
to Quick Access Toolbar
3. Add at least 3 additional tools to the Quick Access Toolbar
4. Click on the arrow next to the QAT and select Customize

5. Use the arrow buttons to organize the buttons on the QAT


6. Click OK

4. Panel/Image ID: identifies the image and the active panel

3D Modes
– 3D Mode is selected from the drop down
menu in the Home tab of the 3D window
– Selected mode affects how the Play
Controls affect the scene
• Mouse controls remain the same no matter
which mode is selected

– Free Mode = play controls will follow the


view of the camera
– Route Mode = uses ordered list of
waypoints to guide camera through scene
– Orbit Mode = users place a target in the
scene and the camera will rotate around
that point
• Users can adjust, speed, altitude, and
distance from target

Create Collection
1. From the Bundle Name drop down,

Job Service Run Queues


– Allows administrators to control how many
processes SOCET GXP is allowed to run at
one time

– Accessed from the Workspace via the View


menu by selecting Jobs > Job Service
Settings
• On the left side of the Job Service window, select
Configure Run Queues
– Five queues are listed in the Job Service
Queues window
– To increase the number of RSETS to be
generated at one time, increase the values in
the Local Batch and the Local Interactive
fields

– To run jobs on other workstations on the


network with SOCET GXP licenses, select
Configure Remote Hosts from the left side
