Image Alignment
– SOCET GXP offers five methods of
bringing images into alignment
– Auto Align
• Quick affine registration using
automatically tie points from within panel
display
– Registration
– Glove Align • Image-to-Ground
• 2D or 3D Polynomial solution
• Manual image to image
• Requires 3-10 tie points/ground control
• Results cannot be saved
points
– Quick Align
– Triangulation (not taught in this class)
• Image-to-Image only
• Image-to-Ground
• 2D Transformation
• Rigorous sensor model adjustment
• Requires 1-3 tie points

Registration
– Provides for image-to-image registration or image-to-ground registration
– Results can be saved for future use
– Does not update initial sensor model data
• Computes a simple 3D polynomial sensor model for the image
• Rubber sheeting
– Image-to-Ground
• Requires ground control points
• Provides the capability to register imagery without support data
– Provides a way to input support data, if the coordinates are known for a specific location on the
image
– Image-To-Image
• Requires at least one image with good support data (Master Image)
– When you select the master image from the registration list, you are selecting the image in which all
geographic calculations derive from
Registration
– Choose from 3
transformation types:
• 1st Order/Affine - Linear
(requires at least 3 points)
• 2nd Order – Non-Linear
(requires at least 6 points)
• 3rd Order – Non-Linear
(requires at least 10 points)
– Higher order
transformations attempt to
fit the control points more
precisely using more
complex curves
– To receive RMS results,
you must measure 1
extra set of points
