What is a PABX system?


PABX is the acronym for Private Automatic Branch Exchange , which when translated into
Portuguese would be something like "Automatic exchange of private extensions ". Its function
starts to become clearer now, doesn't it?

This system began to take hold in the 1990s, when the telecommunications industry underwent
intense changes . The PABX represented the exchange of electromechanical telephone
exchanges for digital ones, a fundamental change for telephone operators at the time - after all,
new possibilities and facilities were on the horizon.

Typically, private telephone systems are expensive and require a professional to install, as they
involve a complex system . That changes when it comes to PABX: anyone with basic computer
skills can install it. And make no mistake: despite the ease of installation, the features are many!

Practical and efficient system


The PABX system can be used both in companies and in homes, but they are more common in
enterprises due to the need to serve a wide network of employees. Thus, within a call center, for
example, the PABX is configured as a private telephone network. Once installed, it is free within
its premises and is not associated with any telephone operator : it is simply connected to an
electrical outlet.
The PABX, in this way, is a distributor of lines and extensions. Several people can use the same
telephone line through the PABX system , setting up an internal communication network . In
calls within the company , it is enough that the person selects a code (usually the zero key), to
select the PABX. In addition, it is also capable of making external calls.

When it comes to calls received by the company, the PABX centralizes the calls to a single point
, the operator , who can transfer the call to the desired extension . For this type of action , the
FLASH key of the telephone set is usually used.

Contributes to the organization of companies


It is through the PABX system that companies such as call centers can exist and function
effectively and productively . It contributes to the organization of institutions , which deal daily
with a huge volume of calls at all times, directed to different people and extensions.

After the simple installation of the PABX system, it is possible, in addition to transferring calls,
to retain, park and maintain complete confidentiality between calls. It also has features such as
auto attendant, caller ID and answering machine. As if that were not enough, it is also possible
to connect the central to the electronic doorman, so that it rings directly on the phone.
