COURSE OUTLINE
First Semester, Academic Year 2023-2024
Course Description:
The course introduces students to the field of biology, the study of life. After tackling what differentiates living systems
from non-living systems, the origins and history of life on Earth are discussed. The course covers the diversity of form and
function across the three Domains--Eubacteria, Archaea, Eukarya--as well as viruses, on the molecular, cellular, and tissue
levels.
Classroom Guidelines/Policies
1. Regular attendance and punctuality in all classes are important obligations of the students. They are
expected to maintain a high rate of attendance
in all classes.
2. Attendance in classes is governed by the policies stated in the student handbook.
3. Students who are not feeling well are advised to inform their teachers about their condition, stay
home, and take proper medication.
4. An excuse letter signed by the parent/guardian must be submitted to the teachers upon return to the
class.
5. All students are required to wear ID and the prescribed school uniform.
6. Students under the influence of liquor are not allowed inside the school premises.
7. Authentic and scholarly outputs are expected from all students. Plagiarism and vandalism are strictly
prohibited and punishable.
8. Observe on-time submission of outputs, activities, and other requirements.
9. Academic respect and honesty are expected from all students. They should demonstrate good
judgement and maintain good relationships
with teachers and fellow students.
10. Cellphones should be shut off during class hours unless authorized by the teachers.
11. Uploaded learning modules and other learning materials in Moodle are exclusive for the use of the
class only. Sharing of materials posted online
and/or distributed manually without the consent of the author is prohibited.
12. Students are encouraged to regularly visit the Moodle account for announcements, updates, required
readings and/or other activities posted by the teachers.
13. Inquiries, feedback, and clarifications are highly welcomed. Always observe proper channels and
protocols when sending communications, inquiries,
or grievances.
14. Ensure that concerns are communicated during office hours to be responded to properly.
15. Students are directed to strictly observe teachers’ classroom management instructions (e.g., manner
of submission of output,
seating arrangements, classroom activities, etc.) as precautionary measures in preventing the spread
of any communicable diseases.
16. Students are expected to abide by other academic and non-academic policies and guidelines of the
university stated in the student handbook.
