6.3 Reciprocating Belt Conveyor

The purpose of the Reciprocating Belt Conveyor is to transport and distribute uniformly
green pellets from the transfer belt conveyor onto the wide belt conveyor.

6.4 Equipment Description

The reciprocating belt conveyor mainly consists of heavy rigid steel construction with the
reciprocating carriage, slide plate, carrying idlers, take-up station, belt and reciprocation
drive.
The steel construction must be designed to meet all accelerating forces of the movable
carriage and must minimize the vibration of the building.
The reciprocating carriage consists of a steel frame with the discharge pulley carrying idlers
and a snub pulley. The reciprocating movement is performed by a hydraulic cylinder device.
The speed of the belt can be adjusted by a frequency-controlled electrical motor in
accordance with the reciprocating carriage speed by a hydraulic cylinder in connection with
a speed adjustable device.
The reciprocating belt conveyor should be designed and built to restart under a full load.

6.5 Description of Work

The reciprocating belt conveyor must be fabricated according to the relevant guide
drawing(s) listed on the subsequent sheet(s) and made of the specified materials.
All materials must be new and conform to the specification and drawings. If materials, other
than those specified are to be used, this will be subject to the CONTRACTOR’s approval in
writing.
The reciprocating belt conveyor essentially but not exclusively consists of:

6.5.1 Reciprocating Carriage

The reciprocating carriage is made of heavy rigid steel construction.

6.5.2 Pulleys

All belt conveyor pulleys namely head, tail, drive, bend, snub and the take - up shall normally

condition but the finished thickness shall not be less than 10 mm in any case. All the pulleys
shall be statically balanced and the permissible balancing weight of the pulley shall not be
more than 5% of the weight of the pulley without shaft. Al least 50% continuous and 100%
momentary overload should be considered in designing the pulley.
Drive pulley of belt conveyor shall be provided with 12 mm thick vulcanized rubber lagging
with herringbone, diamond or Chevron shaped grooves of 6 mm wide and 6 mm deep with
6 mm minimum thickness of material under the bottom of the groove. The groove shall be
spaced between 30 mm and 43 mm. The rubber shall have a Durometer hardness of 55 to
65 shore, Scale A. All non-drive pulleys shall be lagged with a minimum -12 mm plain rubber
lagging of hardness 35 and 45 shores, Scale A.

6.5.3 Pulleys Shaft Bearings

hours. Pillow blocks shall be split type at center with removable top and provided with
labyrinth grease seals for trouble-free operation in the dust-laden atmosphere. The housing
side without shaft passage shall be closed dust-tight by means of a cover.
The bearings shall have permanent lubrication. The material for the pillow block housings
shall be cast steel. In case of unavailability of GS pillow block housings, spheroid graphite
iron (GGG) housings may be supplied alternatively.

6.5.4 Idlers

The carrying idlers shall be designed as a three-roller troughing type. The troughing carrier
idlers shall have a troughing angle of 10 degrees. Length of idlers:

• Middle idlers: 1.650 mm (VENDOR to check)

• Outer idlers: 250 mm (VENDOR to check)
