NEWS ARTICLE ON HOW CORONA SPREADS:

“With cases of COVID-19 reported across the globe, health

officials are focused on slowing the spread. By understanding
how coronavirus spreads, you can take the right steps so you
don't get sick and infect others.

Person-to-Person Transmission
Experts believe the virus that causes COVID-19 spreads mainly
from person to person. There are several ways this can
happen:
● Droplets or aerosols. This is the most common
transmission. When an infected person coughs, sneezes,
or talks, droplets or tiny particles called aerosols carry the
virus into the air from their nose or mouth. Anyone who is
within 6 feet of that person can breathe it into their lungs.
● Airborne transmission. Research shows that the virus can
live in the air for up to 3 hours. It can get into your lungs if
someone who has it breathes out and you breathe that air
in. Experts are divided on how often the virus spreads
through the airborne route and how much it contributes to
the pandemic.
● Surface transmission. A less common method is when you
touch surfaces that someone who has the virus has
coughed or sneezed on. You may touch a countertop or
doorknob that's contaminated and then touch your nose,
mouth, or eyes. The virus can live on surfaces like plastic

3
and stainless steel for 2 to 3 days. To stop it, clean and
disinfect all counters, knobs, and other surfaces you and
your family touch several times a day.
● Fecal-oral. Studies also suggest that virus particles can be
found in infected people's poop. But experts aren't sure
whether the infection can spread through contact with an
infected person's stool. If that person uses the bathroom
and doesn't wash their hands, they could infect things and
people that they touch.
The virus most often spreads through people who have
symptoms. But it is possible to pass it on without showing any
signs. Some people who don't know they've been infected can
give it to others. This is called asymptomatic spread. You can
also pass it on before you notice any signs of infection, called
presymptomatic spread.Community Spread
Sometimes, a person can trace how they got the virus because
they know that they've been in contact with someone who's
sick. In other cases, the cause is unknown. Community spread
is when someone gets the virus without any known contact with
a sick person.

Pets and COVID-19

A few pets have tested positive for the new coronavirus. Not all
of these animals had signs of illness, but some have had mild
symptoms. The animals may have caught the virus from close
contact with humans who were infected.
Public health officials say they are still studying COVID-19 but it
appears that humans can transmit it to pets but not as likely
that pets can transmit it to humans.

4
How Easy Is It to Get Infected?
Many experts say the omicron COVID variant appears to be
more infectious than the previous dominant strain, delta. The
CDC hasn’t confirmed this. But the agency did predict that
omicron would probably spread more easily than the original
SARS-CoV-2 virus.
Researchers say that on average, every person who has
COVID-19 will pass it on to 2 or 2.5 others. One study says that
number is even higher, with one sick person infecting between
4.7 and 6.6 others.
By comparison, someone who has the flu will probably give it to
an average of 1.1 to 2.3 others. But one person with measles
might spread it to 12 to 18 others.
Research has found that although children tend to get infected
with the coronavirus less often and have milder symptoms than
adults, they can still catch and spread it. Some have become
seriously ill and even died.

Can I Get Infected From Delivery Food, Packages, or

Groceries?
It's highly unlikely that you'll catch COVID-19 from packages,
groceries, or food. The important thing is to limit your contact
with other people. If you do your own shopping, try to keep at
least 6 feet away from others in the store. That might not be
possible all the time, so wear a face mask, too. If you use a
delivery service, have them leave groceries, food, or packages
outside your front door if you can.
Wash your hands for at least 20 seconds before and after
bringing things into your home. If you want, you can wipe down
plastic, metal, or glass packaging with soap and water. Then
clean and disinfect countertops and anything else you or your
bags have touched.

5
When to Quarantine or Isolate
To stop the spread of coronavirus, people who are sick need to
self-quarantine, or stay away from those who are well. Because
you may not show symptoms right away, you should also
self-quarantine if you know that you've come into contact with
someone who has COVID-19.
● Stay at home.
● Don't have visitors.
● Wash your hands often with soap and warm water.
● Don't share personal items like dishes, utensils, and
towels.
● Clean frequently touched surfaces like counters,
doorknobs, phones, and remote controls.
If you've tested positive for COVID-19, isolate yourself. Stay at
home in a room that's separate from everyone else, if possible.
Avoid contact with other people and pets. Wear a face mask
when you have to be near other people.
If your symptoms get worse, call your doctor or hospital before
you go in. Follow their instructions to get medical help.
Isolate yourself until there's no chance that you could spread
the virus. Your doctor can tell you when it's safe to stop.”

3. POEM:

“Symptoms like fever making us weak,

Doctor’s help, we need to seek.
Started in China, now, the world if sick,
Let us unite and find a cure, quick.
You will have fever as I told,
You will get headache and a cold.
Following up, then comes cough,
Getting rid of, is now quite tough.
You will get problems of respiration,
Now, we all need prevention.
Muscle pain can come too.
Let us build immunity, me and you.
Wash your hands with some soap,
We’ll fight the virus, that’s the hope.
Sneeze and cough into a tissue,
Let’s take some steps to tackle this issue.
Don’t go to crowded places,
Don’t be one of those thousand cases,
Visit a doctor if you need care,
Now, just make others, all aware. “

PLAN OF INVESTIGATION:

a) My major topic is "covid," but my subtopic is "How does

one contract covid?" I chose this topic because the
coronavirus (COVID-19) epidemic is causing widespread
fear, dread, and tension around the world. COVID-19
upended daily life in the Caribbean, having a significant
impact on virtually all public-life activities like going about
usual daily communication, socializing, playing, learning,
and connecting with one another. Unfortunately, many
people have been careless when interacting during
COVID 19, which is why I chose this topic for my research.

b) As an English student, I anticipate a number of benefits.

One advantage is that it can help me with my public
speaking, vocal quality, grammar, and interpersonal
communication, as well as in the classroom and in public.
It will also help me improve my reading, writing, research,
and critical thinking skills.

c) I intend to collect information from Web publications,

current newspapers, and my school library. Furthermore,
because no one wants to risk contracting COVID by
conducting in-person interviews with members of my
community, I will use online Google forms. My written
report and reflection will be based on the data.

9
Reflection 1:
According to my analysis of Pankhuri Saxenaa's poem. This
poem is a powerful reminder of the importance of prevention
and caution in the face of the Covid-19 pandemic. The poem is
a creative and meaningful way to spread awareness about the
virus and to motivate people to take the necessary precautions.
The poet also encourages us to reach out for help if we are
feeling unwell and to be mindful of the potential dangers of
large gatherings. It effectively uses imagery, vivid language,
and rhyming to evoke an emotional response from the reader. It
conveys the severity of the situation and the importance of
taking action and being mindful of our behavior. It does a great
job of emphasizing the need for collective effort in order to
combat this virus, and the importance of being aware and
taking precautions. While it paints a bleak picture of the
situation, it also offers a sense of hope and encourages the
reader to take action. Overall, it is a powerful and
thought-provoking poem. Pankhuri Saxenaa's poem was
written in colloquial language, and the rhyming began with an
AA,BB rhythm. There are numerous punctuation marks, Neither
mark is the dominant one.

10
Reflection 2:
The first piece was an informative news report (WebMD, 2021).
The speech used in the news item was formal. The terminology
was above my comprehension level. I had to utilize a dictionary
to better understand some words, and I had to conduct
extensive research to gain a clear understanding and some
clarity. Finally, as I was surrounded by it, I was able to grasp the
essay's principles. The language in the brochure was formal.
The diction was easy for me to grasp. This led me to believe
that the brochure was intended for a diverse audience. It was
extremely beneficial to me because I was able to gain more
knowledge.

11
Reflection 3:
With the conclusion of this SBA, I have gotten a better
understanding of the significance of social separation and
donning masks. Also, the advantages of being cheerful and
resisting the need to touch your face. My subtopic piqued my
interest since I was astounded by how quickly Corona droplets
may spread by merely touching someone with dirty hands,
which can begin person-to-person contact and transmit the
virus. I was able to broaden my understanding about "COVID"
thanks to this SBA.

Choosing a subtopic was not an easy task. I attribute this

mostly to the fact that the covid-19 epidemic is global in scope
and affects the vast majority of the world's population. I was
able to choose three artifacts that I liked from the numerous
that were available. I am now more confident in my speaking
and writing abilities, and my research skills have increased as a
result of this SBA.

12
ORAL PRESENTATION POINTS:

● COVID-19 had claimed the lives of millions of people,

devastated communities, and disrupted the lives of many
more,why I chose this topic

● COVID-19 and what is

● What to do if you contracted it

● factors that can raise the chances of developing severe

COVID-19 symptoms

● People endanger themselves and others when they fail to

take the necessary precaution. They are breaking social
distancing rules, and the consequences are visible.

REPORT:
For the past two years, the world has been plagued by the virus
known as 'Covid-19,' which surprised many with its lethality.
Several aspects of our daily lives had been altered; schools
closed, jobs suspended, and many people quarantined hoping
to get better or escape the covid-19 virus. As a group we had a
sudden realization that the majority of people were ignorant or
were unable to educate themselves on this viral pandemic, and
we realized that even we wasn't fully educated on much about
it; so, the group came together and we decided to embark on
the group topic of 'Covid' as a way of gaining knowledge on the
topic and imparting said knowledge onto others who may be
curious about the situation. After numerous and tedious
sessions of researching, we selected three pieces which stood
out to us the most for many reasons.

The first piece that we found to be memorable was the

brochure that was used by Mickel Cooper. We found it to be a
quick and easy way of spreading valuable information just by
reading and handing it out to people. The efficiency of the
brochure really impressed us and stuck with us during the
course of the research. It displayed easy-to-follow steps of how
to keep yourself and others safe, and it was also easy to
understand, along with the format, which was created that way
to grab one’s attention. The other piece was a poem (written by

16
baldiwfs) and provided by our other member, Jaden Alexis. We
found that it fully encapsulated the online learning experience,
mentioning both the struggles and benefits of the schooling
system, which especially stuck with us during the meetings. It
also gave us a type of connection in seeing how we can relate
to such things and be motivated to look at the good things
amidst the bad, while also bringing awareness to it and the
problems it can bring. The last piece is about an article on
“What if You Feel Sick and How to Assess Whether or Not You
Have COVID-19," written by Hopkins Medicine and used by
Kareem Huggins. Many times, people who are sick don't know
what to do, and that's why we decided that this article was not
only amazing but also provided useful information on what to
do when you are sick, as well as going into detail on the many
points they listed to help you in such an event, such as
providing us with many known methods of handling one's self
when sickly and much more.

Lastly, to sum it up, even though at first we had many difficulties

and troubles in attaining our pieces, this was a major learning
experience for us. We were ecstatic to be able to assist people
who were unaware of the virus and share the information we
had gathered; this kept everyone motivated as we worked our
way through and eventually got all of the pieces.
