clothes, books and stationery sold in the bazaar. The competitions included an English poetry
recite, English speech. football, basketball and badminton.
What made me happy was that I participated in several activities, like English speech and
badminton competitions. My friends and I also participated in a music show. My friends played
drums, the guitar and organ, while I was the singer.
A few weeks before, we prepared ourselves well for the competitions. I wrote my speech
and asked my English teacher for improvement. My friends and I practiced badminton and
played music together for a month to develop our skills and succinctness. We wanted to perform
our best.
The events ran well. I was the second runner-up in the English speech contest. My friends and I

Hi, I'm Ashleigh from Michigan. Fat talk was an around me and my friends. My friends
did it, moms did it, and nobody really stopped to think how all the negativity affected people. I
always compared myself to the models in magazines and the celebrities on television—I would
pick out all the things that made me different from them and feel as though I wasn't pretty I think
the media definitely had a lot to do with my own negative thoughts about body image. There
were no plus-size models in the magazine ads and it was still considered a bad thing to be
anything but a sample size.
Although I think media still has a long way to go in changing the social norms
surrounding body image, it is good to know that small changes are happening. In the end, it's
about feling healthy ard good about yourself, no matter what size you are.
