HANDOUTS IN PHYSICAL EDUCATION 2

FIRST SEMESTER

LESSON 1: Body Management and Movement Skills

Body Shapes. There are different parts of your body that help you move and
do everyday activities. These body parts enable you to do specific movements even
if you are just standing in place or moving around. You must move these body
parts properly so you could do the things that make you active and useful.

Types of Body Shape

1. Round- In this shape, your body is curled up like a ball. Your body
parts are being pulled closer together.

2. Wide- In this shape, your body parts are stretched to create a wider
space. One example is when you stand and stretch your arms wide.

3. Narrow- In this shape, your actions or movements keep your body

parts close to your body.
We must also remember that our body shape can be in symmetrical or
asymmetrical shapes. Look at the given examples.

A symmetrical shape is formed when you are doing an action

wherein both sides of your body are in the same position.
Example: standing straight with both your hands down
On the other hand, asymmetrical shape is formed when you are doing an
action wherein your left side is in another position with you right side.
Example:
twisting your body to the left side while your feet is pointed on the right
side.
A. Identify the body shape shown in each item. Write round, wide or narrow
on the space below the picture.

Day 2

Think of 2 movements or actions, one (1) action for each: Round, wide and
narrow shape. Perform these 2 actions in front of the class.

LESSON 2: Kinds of Movements: Locomotor Movements

There are 2 types of body movements. These are locomotor movements and non-
locomotor movements.
1. Locomotor movements are movements that make your body move from
one place to another. Examples of this are when you walk, run, jump, hop,
skip, gallop, leap, and slide.
It is important to do the different locomotor movements correctly like
walking, running and jumping to keep our body healthy and to prevent
injuries or accidents.

A. Do the following movements by following the description. Identify the

locomotor movement described in each sentence by coloring your answer
with blue crayon.

1. It requires you to transfer your weight from one leg to another in fast
motion or movement. This is usually one of the basic skills in playing
basketball.

walking

running
2. It is another locomotor skill with the same movement pattern. The
movement pattern is to jump on one foot and land on the same foot.

hopping
sliding

3. This movement pattern requires you to jump on one or both feet but you
have to land on both feet. One example of this is when you play using a
jumping rope.

jumping

leaping

A.Identify the locomotor movement described in each sentence. Color your

answer pink.

4. This movement is moving slowly by dragging the body forward using both
hands and knees.

leaping crawling

5. This movement requires you to move your body on the ground by turning
over and over like a wheel.

rolling skipping

Day 2
Practice correctly doing the different locomotor movements we studied.

Study for a 10-item test next week about Locomotor Body Movements.

LESSON 1: Non-Locomotor Body Movements

Non-locomotor movements are movements that you do without leaving

your own place. These are used in warm-up activities before doing exercises
and playing sports. They also serve as cool-down activities after doing
exercises to prevent the body from getting injured.

Examples of non-locomotor movements are:

 bending
 clapping
 pulling
 pushing
 shaking
 swinging
 stretching
turning
Let us identify if the following movements belong to the locomotor or non-
locomotor movements. Write the phrases under the correct table.

sliding to the right tapping of shoulders

shaking of hands marching backward
skipping 2 times bending down
swaying to the left galloping 3 times

Locomotor Movements Non-locomotor Movements

1. 1.

2. 2.

3. 3.

4. 4.

Which locomotor and non-locomotor movements do you usually do? Show it to

the class.

Short Test # 2: Study for a short quiz next week about Non-
Locomotor Body Movements.

Kindly prepare a pad paper and pencil.

LESSON 1: Moving in Different Locations and Space

Space is any area like the playground, the school ground, or the yard in your home
where you can move and play.

Types of Spaces

1. Personal space
Personal space is all the areas that your body or its parts can reach. The
kind of movements that you can do in this type of space are non-locomotor
movements. The place where you are standing, sitting, or lying is your
personal space. The following are examples of non-locomotor movements
you can do in your own personal space: stretching, bending down, touching
your toes, pushing, or pulling, raising, or lowering, twisting or turning,
shaking, stomping your feet and marching in place.

2. General or open space

General space is a place that has a wider area where you can do different
locomotor movements. It allows you to move freely from one place to
another. In this space, 2 or more people can do activities at the same time.
Examples of these are the high school quadrangle, playground, school
ground and the SICC.

A. Identify the body shape shown in each item. Write round, wide or narrow
on the space below the picture.
