COURSE ASSESSMENT

 A seminar paper of approximately 2000 words (20) marks
 A main assignment of approximately 6000 words (50) marks.

Assessment questions

1. A main paper question

“The primary gist of land use controls is to limit population density, noise, pollution and
maintain the aesthetics of the neighborhood”. Discuss how land use controls can be
used to achieve these goals, with examples from the laws in your country.

2. A seminar paper question

Given the fact that zoning is an essential tool in successful urban planning, trace its
development and assess whether it has been a successful tool for urban planning
drawing examples from Tanzania.
 3.The main assignment question

“Urban and peri-urban areas are main threats of human activities. Land use planning
and management in these regions is a primary tool in the struggle for a sustainable
future”. Make an appraisal of how land planning laws in Tanzania can be a tool of
achieving the goal of sustainable future. Is the law sufficient?
