1. INTRODUCTION

1.1. OBJECTIVE

The objective of this report is to ensure all the header box have sufficient
strengths to carry various loading (Dead load, MAWP Pressure, Design
temperature, and Nozzle load) which possible acting on the header box
during the operation condition (Hot & Corroded).

1.2. SCOPE

This report contains the Finite Element Analysis of In/Outlet Header Box for
1st STG Inlet Comp. Inter Cooler (12-H-1101 A/B) Akatara Gas
Development Project.

1.3. DEFINITION

Stress intensity is defined as twice the maximum shear stress (which is

equivalent to the difference between the largest principal stress and the
smallest principal stress as a given point).

Primary membrane stress refers to a membrane stress occurring across

thickness of any section or is average stress across full width.

Primary Membrane and Bending (combined) Stress Intensity refers to

primary membrane stress plus bending stress excluding secondary and
peak stresses.

Local Membrane and Bending (combined) Stress Intensity refers to primary

membrane stress plus bending stress including secondary stress but not
peak stresses.

Secondary Stress refers to normal stress or shear stress developed by the

constraint adjacent parts or by self-constraint of a structure.

Peak Stress refers to stress which does not cause any noticeable distortion
and is objectionable only as a possible source of fatigue crack or brittle
fracture.

3. METHODOLOGY

3.1. CALCULATION METHOD

0
Geometry modeling, Loading and solution was provided with Ansys v17. 3D
modeling conducted to obtain geometry to approach similar to the actual
condition.

And the Solution was provided with Stresses intensity, in turn will be
compared with the allowable stress to get acceptable result.

4.1. MATERIAL PROPERTIES

Rever to ASME VIII Div.2, Part 5, Section 5.2.2.4, The Allowable limit on
0
local primary membrane and local primary membrane plus bending, SPL, is
computed as the large of the quantities shown below :
(a) 1.5 times the tabulated allowable stress for the material from Annex 3-A

(ASME IID, Table 1A)

(b) Sy for the material from Annex 3-A (ASME IID, Table Y-1), except that
the value from (a) shall be used when the ration of the minimum
specified yield strength to ultimate tensile strength (Sy/Su) exceeds 0.7,
or the value of S is governed by time-dipendent properties as indicated
in Annex 3-A (ASME IID, Table 1A).

4.3. LOADING

During operating conditions (Hot & Corroded), the combination load be

consider in design consists of Self Weight, MAWP Pressure, and Nozzle
load.

As per mechanical design, MAWP Pressure is 3.75 Mpa, Self weight is

automatically calculated by the software with the gravity value g = 9.8 m/s2,
and the Nozzle load values can be seen in the following table.

Table 3

5. RESULTS SUMMARY

5.1. DEFLECTION

The permissible maximum deflection must be less than L/200. Where L is

span between support. Refer to drawing V-2153-101-A-108, span between 0
supports is 1527 mm (60.12 in). So with simple calculation L/200 =
1527/200 = 7.635 mm (0.30 in). The displacement from FEA result are well
below the limiting deflection criteria.

5.2. ALLOWABLE STRESS LIMITS

Based on the Finite Element analysis using static loads, it could be seen
that stress intensity are still within the allowable stress.
