Introduction

Region 1, also called the Ilocos Region located in the NorthWest


of Luzon. This Region composed of the 4 major provinces. Ilocos
Norte, Ilocos Sur, Pangasinan and La Union.

Their languages are Ilocano and Pangasinense.

History

 Negritos first inhabited this region, Austronesian immigrants


before pushed by successive ways in this region that
penetrated the narrow coast.

 16th Century- the Spanish arrived and established Christian


Missions and governmental institutions to control the native
population and convert them to Catholicism.

 In 1973- Ferdinand Marcos transferred Pangasinan from Region


III to Region 1. He imposed migration policy for Ilocanos into
Pangasinan afterwards.
Tourist Spots in Region I

 Bangui Windmill, Ilocos Norte


Bangui Wind Farm is a wind farm in the Philippines, in Bangui, Ilocos
Norte. Over the years, these windmills have developed into a global
tourist attraction that, like the famous Don Quixote, has inevitably
attracted and anticipated millions of visitors.

Visited by thousands of tourists, particularly during summer


season. There are no costs to pay to get a beautiful shot
beneath one of the giant windmills. To get a view of the
stunning windmill draw, make sure to visit the windmill farm
during the daytime.
 Vigan Ilocos Sur

 It is unique among the Philippine towns because it is the


country’s most extensive and only surviving historic city that
dates back to the 16th century Spanish colonial period.

restaurant, hole-in-the-wall cafes, or quaint eateries that
serve oh-so-delicious food! You must try their famous Vigan
longganisa and empanada! What’s even better is that the
food here isn’t expensive unlike in other touristy places.
 Bauang Grape Farms

 The town of Bauang boasts hectare upon hectare of


vineyards and grape farms. Overshadowed by the
beaches and waves of the neighboring towns, the grape-
picking activity in Bauang is certainly an underrated
attraction in the province. But timing is everything here
because grapes are seasonal.
 With decades of experience in grape farming, Bauang
vineyard owners are now maximizing it to include grape
picking to the delights of the visitors.
 Lingayen Beach in Lingayen, Pangasinan

 the capital of the province, this Pangasinan beach is a


popular summer destination for Filipinos seeking to relax,
unwind, swim, and take in the cool breeze from the ocean.

 Many restaurants along the beach also serve freshly grilled


seafood. It’s also the best place for you to sample Lingayen
bagoong, a fish paste that the municipality is known for.
 Blue Lagoon Pagudpud, Ilocos
Norte
 this beach used to be a secret, however, as many tourists find the
place to be relaxing and cozy many have to come to see the place
themselves. Blue Lagoon also known as Maira-Ira Point is a crescent-
shaped beach with soft white sand lining its pristine blue waters. The
beach is the perfect place to stay if you want to rest your tired
bodies from the day’s event in Ilocos.
 Baluarte Zoo Vigan, Ilocos Sur

 The zoo offers animals native in our country as well as imported ones,
among others. A butterfly farm as well as horse riding track is situated
within the complex. Along the paths, roads, and cages, tourists can
have a glimpse of lions, Bengal tigers, camels, monkeys, peacocks,
civet cats, iguanas, pythons and other reptiles, birds, and animals.
 Tangadan Falls San Gabriel, La Union
 is a two-tier waterfall that flows into the Baroro River, with the water
coming in from the Cordillera Mountain Ranges. The lower cascade of the
falls has a width of 100 feet and a 40 foot drop, with a natural catch basin
pool that is great for a quick dip on a hot summer’s day.
 Hundred Islands Alaminos,
Pangasinan

The islands are actually ancient corals that extend well inland, in an
area previously comprising the seabed of an ancient sea. Lowering
sea levels have exposed them to the surface and the peculiar
"umbrella"-like shapes of some of the islands have been caused by
the eroding action of the ocean waves.

Region’s economy rose 4.6 percent last year.-ECONOMY OF
ILOCOS NORTE- The economy of Ilocos Norte declined by 7.7
percent in 2020 accounting to PhP 581.9 billion from the PhP
630.4 billion of the previous year. POPULATION: 608,588 {2020

 -ECONOMY OF ILOCOS SUR- The economy Ilocos Sur is predominantly


accounting for 52.0 percent of the regions total output. POPULATION:

 -ECONOMY OF LA UNION- The economy is diversified with services,


manufacturing,agricultural industries spread throughout the province.

 -ECONOMY OF PANGASINAN- Pangasinan is primarily an agricultural


province with rice,corn, livestock and fish as it’s major products.

Cultural and Arts

 Ilocanos are known to be hardworking and frugal, hardy in the face of


adversity. Respect and humility in everyday dealings mark the Ilocano
personality, they live simply, concentrating on work and productivity

 Pottery

 What is Pottery is the process and the products of forming vessels


and other objects with clay and other ceramic materials, which
are fired at high temperatures to give them a hard and durable
form. Major types include earthenware, stoneware and porcelain
 Weaving

 Weaving is the process of crossing one group of threads, the weft


with a second group of threads, the warp, to make cloth or a
decorative artwork. The warp are attached to the loom, the
framework used to hold the threads. The weft moves under and
over the warp threads.
Notable People

 ILOCOS NORTE It is the birthplace of several notable Philippine


leaders including former President Ferdinand E. Marcos

 Artemio Ricarte y García (October 20, 1866 – July 31, 1945) was
a Filipino general during the Philippine Revolution and the
Philippine–American War.

 Gregorio Aglipay Cruz y Labayán 5 May 1860 – 1 September


1940) was a former Filipino Catholic priest who became the first
head of the Iglesia Filipina Independiente, an independent
Church in the form of a national church in the Philippines.
 ILOCOS SUR Ilocos Sur was founded by the Spanish
conquistador Juan de Salcedo in 1572.

 Gabriela Silang — revolutionary leader best known as the first


female leader of a Filipino movement for independence from
Spain

 Isabelo de los Reyes — prominent Filipino politician, writer and


labor activist. He was the original founder of the Iglesia Filipina
Independiente, an independent Philippine national church.
 PANGASINAN President Fidel V. Ramos, who was born in
Lingayen and hails from Asingan.

 José Torres Bugallón, Filipino military officer who fought during


the Philippine Revolution and the Philippine–American War, from
Bugallon.
 Victorio Edades, National Artist of the Philippines
for Visual Arts– Painting, from Dagupan City. He
was named a National Artist in 1976.History
names Victorio Edades as “the father” of Modern
Philippine art.
