Ilocos Region.
- Illustrate background of Ilocos Region.
- Appreciate the beauty and significant of Ilocos Region
The Region 1 or Ilocos Region. YLOCOS literally mean from
LOW LANDS.
Region 1 or the Ilocos Region is made out of four
regions and a city—Ilocos Norte, Ilocos Sur, La Union,
Pangasinan, and Dagupan City. Majority of the
population speaks Ilocano, the third largest spoken
language in the Philippines, although a significant
number also speak Pangasinense. The region has a
coast and sloping extents that are prone to typhoon in
the wet months, however devastatingly hot during the
dry season. This is the setting of Ilocano food. It's
salty because of the closeness to the ocean. There is
even a whole territory named after asin (salt) in
Pangasinan. Fish is preserved by drying, and of
course, reduced into a paste or sauce by fermentation.

Region 1: Part of an extensive region (vonsisting of the
present provinces Ilocos Norte, Ilocos sur, Abra and
Pangasinan) renowed for its Gold mines.
-The Inhabitants called theire place "SAMTOY" from the
word " SAO, MI, TOY" which literally means OUR
LANGUAGE.
-On June 13 1572 Salcedo and his men landed in Vigan.
-- They were surprised to see numerous sheltered cove
('looc') where the locals lives in Harmony.
-The Region was Called by the Spaniards as "YLOCOS" or
"ILOCOS" and its People "ILOCANOS".

- The first independent cities of province is Dagupan City.


-Pangasinan ( Lalawigan ng Pangasinan) is a province in
the Philippines. Its provincial capital is Lingayen.
Pangasinan is on the western area of the island of
Luzon along the Lingayen Gulf and West Philippine
Sea.

ILOCOS NORTE: Ilocos Norte is a province


in the northern Philippines. In the capital
Laoag City, grand Paoay Church is a fusion
of local and baroque architecture. Land
area is 3,500 square kilometers, 547,300
total current population consisting of 21
towns and 2 cities, Laoag City is the capital
of the province.
-Homeland of former president Ferdinand
Marcos who was ousted after more than 20 years
of the dictatorship through the historic 1986 Edsa
Revolution.

Ilocanos known for being hard working,


appreciative, simple and determine, However,
they are also known as stingy or “kuripot” .

-Death for Ilocanos means great sorrow.

-ILOCOS SUR: Ilocos Sur is a province in the
Philippines located in the Ilocos Region in Luzon.
Vigan City, located on the mouth of the Mestizo River
is the provincial capital.
-Today, Ilocos Sur thrives not only as a prime tourist
spot. The province also has a booming agriculture and
manufacturing sector, thanks in large part to a rich
landscape surrounded by mountains and the sea, and a
skilled, artistic local workforce. For both locals and
visitors, Ilocos Sur relives the past through
monuments, museums, Hispanic towns, and
architectural relics. With Vigan City in the front line,
Ilocos Sur offers a vivid glimpse of Philippine history
with every town and every corner of the province
holding a small piece of the past.

-La Union is a province in the Philippines located in the
Ilocos Region in the island of Luzon. Its capital is the city
of San Fernando, which also serves as the regional center
of the whole Ilocos Region.
