Region 1 (Pangasinan & Ilocos Sur)

Ilocos Region - Is an administrative region of the Philippines,


designated as Region I, occupying the northwestern section of Luzon.
The region comprises four provinces: Ilocos Norte, Ilocos Sur, La Union
and Pangasinan.
Pangasinan
 Was first founded by Austronesian peoples who called themselves
Anakbanwa.
 The name Pangasinan (pronounced "Pang-ASINan") means "place
of salt" or "place of salt-making".
 The name for the province, the people, and the language spoken
in the province.
The Wangdom of Pangasinan - (as known in Chinese records) and
locally known as the ancient kingdom or state called Luyag na Caboloan
with Binalatongan (San Carlos) as its capital.
Urduja a legendary woman warrior who is believed to have ruled in
Pangasinan around the 14th century.
Pangasinan is subdivided into 44 municipalities, 4 cities (Alaminos,
Dagupan, San Carlos and Urdaneta) it has 1,364 barangays and 6
Congressional Districts.
Lingayen - Its provincial capital.
Before the arrival of the Spaniards, the coastal plains in northwestern
Luzon, stretching from north to south were a region called the Ylokos
Ylokos - which literally meant from the lowlands
Don Juan de Salcedo - A Spaniard explorer, his expedition arrived in
Vigan on June 13, 1572.
February 2, 1818 - A royal decree which separated Ilocos Norte from
Ilocos Sur.
Vigan – Capital of Ilocos Sur, and was once known as Kabigbigaan from
Biga (Alocasia Indica). Its name Bigan was later changed to Vigan. To
the Spaniards it was Villa Fernandina in honor of King Ferdinand, the
Spanish ruler then.
Ilocos Sur have 32 Municipalities, 2 Cities (Vigan & Candon City) and
768 Barangays. The population of Ilocos Sur, as of 01 May 2020
is 706,009.
Calle Crisologo, City of Vigan - The street is named after, Mena Pecson
Crisologo is among the most-respected sons of the Ilokos region. He
wrote Mining wenno Ayat ti Kararwa.
Padre Burgos House -This museum is the ancestral house and
birthplace of priest patriot Fr. Jose Burgos.
