APPLIED
RESEARCH
O ur students and faculty work together
with government agencies and industry
players to innovate and develop solutions to
meet the needs of Singapore and the global
society at large. As catalysts for transformation,
we aim to create a more sustainable, connected,
and safe space for everyone.

Sustainable Urban Farming

Our students and faculty members from various
programme clusters have developed a new farming
system that utilises unused urban spaces to grow
vegetables in Singapore to support food security.
You could very well be munching on vegetables
harvested from the side-facades of HDB blocks
or plots of land below overhead train tracks and
bridges in the not-so-distant future.

Supporting Singapore’s
Agri-Food Sector
As one of Singapore’s driving forces to promote
innovation in our fast-growing food tech sector,
SIT will launch a new, small batch food production
facility, FoodPlant, in partnership with Enterprise
Singapore and JTC Corporation. This will help
food manufacturers to reduce high opportunity
and operating costs and leverage our in-house
consultancy services.

Driving Continual R&D and Innovation
in Cybersecurity
Doing our part to fight global cybercrime, SIT is
working with industry to drive the development
and sophistication of cybersecurity solutions
through applied research. One such project is
the Smart Learning Analytics for Digital Crime
(SLADE) developed in collaboration with Custodio
Technologies, Defence Science and Technology
Agency (DSTA), and Ministry of Home Affairs. This
involves the construction of a smart automated
system that will help investigators overcome
challenges of modern cybercrime investigation and
digital evidence analysis. At the same time, it will
reduce the time and effort needed for cybersecurity
incident investigation and identification of DNA of
Advance Persistent Threats (APTs).

The App that Saves Babies

One doesn’t have to don a white coat to save lives. Our
Information and Communications Technology (Software
Engineering) students have helped bridge healthcare
and ICT to create a meaningful impact on lives. Building
a mobile application that allows National University
Hospital (NUH) doctors to keep track of infants’ data
on-the-go, our students have taken infant care a step
further by improving workflow areas such as minimising
human error, offline capabilities, and portability.

Helping SMEs Innovate and Digitalise

Accounting Processes
Through the launch of SIT’s Accounting Technology &
Innovation Centre (AccTech Centre) with the Singapore
Accountancy Commission (SAC), local accounting
entities can collaborate with our faculty members,
technology partners, and government agencies to
innovate processes, service delivery, products, and
business models. The centre has worked on several
projects to help accounting and auditing firms digitise
their manual processes and improve work productivity.
For instance, the centre has partnered with a firm to
work on a customised automation software. With the
help of our professors and students, the time needed
to prepare and process each financial statement will be
reduced, hence improving efficiency at work.

Dietetics and Nutrition One myth about SIT
SIT not being a good enough university is not true!
We have a distinctive learning culture and attitude in
SIT that differentiates us from undergraduates in
other universities.

Pursuing Dietetics and Nutrition

During my poly internship as a dietetic technician, I
witnessed the joy on the dietitians’ faces whenever the
patients’ blood test results improved after following
through medical nutritional therapy. The impact I can
bring to patients through nutrition inspired me.

My CCA
Can you imagine various communities doing the
impossible? In Magical Hearts, beneficiaries are taught to
perform magic to offset impossibilities. We want them to
be seen for their capabilities rather than their conditions.

Favourite memory from my CCA

During a virtual magic session for children with
cancer, I noticed that a shy girl had been following
instructions carefully and making good progress silently.
To encourage her, I sent her a ‘good job’ message
via the chatbox. Towards the end of the session, she
volunteered to perform for everyone. Her courage and
confident smile is a dear memory for me.

Hobbies
Playing the violin, leathercrafting, baking, and the

Proudest achievement from SIT

Science in Real-Time Interactive Simulation
It’s not all fun and games, as game development is one
of the most gruelling computer science specialisations. It
encompasses networking, kinematics, lightwave physics,

INVESTING IN
YOUR FUTURE
G etting a university degree is an investment in your
education, and more importantly, your future. We
understand that finances are an essential consideration,
so we have broken down the type of education costs you
can expect to incur in SIT.

Tuition Fees
SIT tuition fees are highly subsidised by the Ministry of Education through the
Tuition Grant Scheme (TGS). The TGS is extended to Singapore Citizens
(SC), Permanent Residents (SPR), and International Students (IS) enrolled in
SIT. Eligible students who are awarded the Tuition Grant will pay subsidised
tuition fees*. The Tuition Grant is bond-free for Singapore Citizens. SPR and IS
are required to sign a Tuition Grant agreement and work for a Singapore-based
company for a period of three years upon graduation.
SingaporeTech.edu.sg/admissions/tuition-fees

Living Expenses
As a student, you will have to pay for daily essentials such as food, transport,
and personal expenditure. Costs such as books, laptop, and extra materials
you may need for your studies will need to be factored in as well.

Enrichment Costs
(Overseas Immersion Programme (OIP), Overseas Study Trips, etc.)

Depending on government advisories on the global pandemic, opportunities

for overseas programmes might resume. One example is the Overseas
Immersion Programme (OIP) offered to students who are pursuing joint or
overseas university undergraduate programmes. The OIP is designed to
provide greater learning experiences and include lectures, hands-on project
work, workshops, and industry visits. This enrichment cost is separate from
the tuition fees.
SingaporeTech.edu.sg/life-at-sit/global-experience

Note:

C, SPR, and IS who have received the tuition grant for studies in degree programmes at NUS, NTU, SMU, SUTD, SIT, SUSS, LASALLE, or NAFA, will be
S
*

eligible for tuition grant of up to total credits required for graduation at SIT, less the percentage of semesters or trimesters of the tuition grant received at
their previous university. Students who have fully utilised their tuition grant for degree programmes and were conferred degree qualifications will have to pay
non-subsidised fees for the entire duration of their new programme.
