QUESTION: LIST AND EXPLAIN THE FIVE CREATIVITY TECHNIQUES.

Creativity techniques are methods, procedures or processes that are used in building on one’s
capacity to think creatively in order to allow the improvement upon ideas as well as equipping us
to design new and effective ways of solving more complex problems.
These creativity techniques are:
1. Brainstorming: This allows for the generation of a large pool of thoughts, ideas or
solutions in a specific period of time, while giving every member involved a chance to
give their two cents regarding the issue on board. Thus, something that would’ve taken
longer to arrive at because only one person would’ve been working on it at their own
pace is achieved in less time with all hands on decks or in this case; all minds on deck. It
is more of speed work.

2. Trial and Error: This creativity technique is usually employed when no specific
direction or formula is required to produce a solution to the problem at hand. Here,
several possible solutions are generated and as the name goes, each solution is tried or
tested until a concrete solution which actually solves the problem at hand is produced.

3. Inspirational Questions: These types of questions improve creativity and innovation

because they push you to test the boundaries of one’s thoughts and the ideas that we can
come up with if we asked ourselves inspiring questions – they make use of the who, why,
where, what, when and how?

4. Psychological cognitive: This comprises three techniques namely; Creative Problem

solving by Osborn-Parnes, Synectics and Lateral thinking by Edward de Bono. Creative
Problem Solving (CPS) uses a reversal method where problem questions are posed to
highlight the reasons why those problems are coming up
