IV. PROCEDURES
A. Reviewing previous Preliminary Activity
lesson or presenting -Classroom attendance
the new lesson -Classroom cleanliness and orderliness
-Greetings/Introduction
B. Establishing a ACTIVITY/MOTIVATIONAL ACTIVITY
purpose for the The teacher will give the students an activity entitled What I Know. This is to review them for the
lesson new lesson.
C. Presenting
examples/instances
of the new lesson

D. Developing mastery
(leads to Formative
Assessment 3)

ANALYSIS
The teacher will ask the students the following questions for them to think about before going to the
lesson proper.
1. How many 2-digit numbers can you make using the digits 5, 6, 7, and 8 without
repeating the digits?
2. There are 8 balls in a box. The balls are numbered 1 – 8. You need to choose 3 of
the balls. How many possible combinations are there?
3. How are we going to solve this?

ABSTRACTION
In this part of the lesson, the teacher will answer the questions asked in the Analysis part by
introducing them to the lesson proper.

A combination is a selection of things/distinct objects in any order. In combination, order does NOT
pertain.
One of the fundamental counting principles.
It is also a selection of things/distinct objects in any order.

Example 2. Mary wants to join a book club that offers a choice of 10 new books each month. If Mary
wants to buy 2 books, find the number of different pairs she can buy.

Example 4:

Nathan wants to order a sandwich with two of the following ingredients: mushroom, eggplant,
tomato, and avocado. How many different sandwiches can Nathan choose?
The order of outcomes is not important, so this situation involves combinations.

applications of
concepts and skills in Note: The examples/application to be given to the students will be done during the discussion.
daily living Note: some applications on this lesson will be reflected on the powerpoint presentation.
D. Generalizing and
abstractions about
Questions and problems are to be given using the powerpoint presentation. This time, they need to
the lesson
differentiate whether the problem is a combination or a permutation and then they will answer the
E. Evaluating learning given problem. If they can have a perfect score on these 3 problems, they will have an extra 10 points
to be added into their supplemental activity for the third grading period.

A. Four people need to be selected from a class of 15 to help clean up the campus. How many
different ways can the 4 people be chosen, if the only two girls refuse to help?
Answer: The order of outcomes is not important, so this situation involves combinations. 13 Choose
4 = 715
B. A basketball team has 12 members who can play any position. How many different ways
can the coach choose 5 starting players?
Answer: The order of outcomes is not important, so this situation involves combinations. 12C5 = 792
C. Nine people in a writing contest are competing for first, second and third prize. How many
ways can the 3 people be chosen?
Answer: The order of outcomes is important, so this situation involves permutations. Permutation: 9
x 8 x 7 = 504
Integration of the lesson across the curriculum:
Combinations can be used in MAPEH such that the teacher will choose 5 students to perform a
dance in a class which have 50 students.

F. Additional activities
for application or
remediation
V. REMARKS

VI. REFLECTION
A. No. of learners who
earned 80% in the
evaluation
B. No. of learners who
require additional
activities for
remediation
C. Did the remedial
lessons work? No. of
learners who have
caught up with the
lesson
D. No. of learners who
continue to require
remediation
E. Which of my
teaching strategies
worked well? Why
did these works?
F. What difficulties did
I encounter which
my principal or
supervisor can help
me solve?
G. What innovation or
localized materials
did I use/discover
which I wish to share
with other teachers?
