TITLE: HOW DIFFERENT COLOURS ABSORB HEAT?

OBJECTIVE:
 To compare how much heat is absorb by black paper versus the
light colors (
 To understand how the principle applies to different colors.
MATERIALS:
 COLORED PAPER
 BLACK AND WHITE PAPER
 ICE
PROCEDURES
1. CUT SQAURES OF COLORED PAPER BIG ENOUGH TO
COVER AN ICE.
2. PUT THE ICE OUT IN SUNNY LOCATION
3. WITH THOSE DIFFERENT COLORED PAPER COVER EACH
WITH ICE.
4. CHECK THE ICE AND KEEP A RECORD OF THEIR MELTING
5. DETERMINE WHICJ COLORS MELTED THE ICE FASTEST.

OBSERVATION
Ice helpds determine which colors have the highest level of heat

absorptions. Black is the ultimate heat absorber. It absorbs all light on

the visual spectrum, creating a void of light Colors like pink or yellow are

often called "bright" because of the high degree of light they reflect back. Visual
light is composed of numerous different colored wavelengths which make a

white light when combi ned. The key is that colors do not absorb different

amounts of heat, only heat from light.

CONCLUSION

Heat energy obeys the same laws of conservation as light energy.

Therefore, due to the nature of visual light, colors that reflect most

wavelengths of light tend to be cooler than those that only reflect a

few.  Regardless, the heat absorption hierarchy of colors will always

remain if all other factors are equal. Some heat is still absorbed based

on the nature of the object's material, but minimal additional heat is

absorbed, making white the coolest possible color.
