LESSON PLAN IN SCIENCE 5
I. OBJECTIVE: Infer the pattern in the changes in the appearance of the Moon
(S5FE-IVg-h-7)
II. SUBJECT MATTER:
Topic: Infer the pattern in the changes in the appearance of the Moon
Reference: Teacher Guide pp. Learners’ Materials pp. 174-177
Materials: 2 small ball, 1 big flashlight, 1 medium size ball, 1 tall jar
Process Skills: Demonstrating, inferring, describing
Values Integration: Appreciation of God’s creation
PRELIMINARY ACTIVITIES
1. Prayer
2. Greetings
3. Checking of Attendance
4. Review
What is weather disturbance?
What is a tropical cyclone?
What are the classifications of cyclones? Describe each.
2. EXPLORATION
Engage the pupils to hands-on activity. Have the following classroom standards
set first:
• Manner of grouping the pupils
• Behavior during group work
• Precautionary measures to be observed
• Duration of Activity/Time Allotment
• Pupil’s engagement in the activity
Let each group answer all the questions in their assigned activity.
Guide the pupils as they perform the activity. Observe maximum participation
of the group members.
Divide the class into three groups.
Introduce the activity. Let them follow the directions very well.
Guide Questions:
1. On a piece of paper, draw the lighted portion of the small ball in different
positions.
2. Did the small ball change its shape as it turned around the human head?
Why?
3. What portion of the small ball reflects the light? Did the ball change its
shape? Why?
4. EXPLANATION:
1. Have each group present their output for 5 minutes only and answer the
guide questions.
2. Process the responses of each group and find out the similarities and
differences of their answers.
5. ELABORATION:
Strengthen the concepts developed through the discussion on the phases
of the moon using the model, that shows the apparent changes of the
shapes of the moon in relation to its position to the earth and the sun.
