Sector 1 Description of the Itinerary
The great journey that is the Via Algarviana starts next to Alcoutim Pier, with

Marmelete Bensafrim » 30 km
Description of the Itinerary
Sector 12 Starting off in Marmelete, this stretch of the route runs alongside the PR6 MCQ
– Marmelete Walking Path for about 300 metres. The Via Algarviana then turns
off to the left, and the route to the right for a further 1.7 km to Aljezur, along with
Marmelete Bensafrim
Connection 5 – Via Algarviana (Marmelete). You’ll be heading in a north-westerly
direction initially, until you reach the municipal road that connects this village
to the town of Aljezur. If you want to visit the town of Aljezur itself, follow con-
nection 5, but be careful as the markings are the same for both. As you follow

Nature
If you’re adventuring through this sector after it has been raining heavily,
you may have to take off your shoes a few times to cross the Vagarosa and
Sobrosa streams, which add a new dimension of beauty to the route, with
their riparian vegetation.
The Odiáxere, or Bravura, Dam and reservoir, with its green margins, certainly
leaves a striking mark on the route too.
The farmland, made up of fields, gardens and orchards, as well as forest areas
filled with cork oak groves, pine forests and clusters of eucalyptuses spread
into the distance before you, a hugely diverse landscape that is far from
monotonous, holding the interest of those who travel through this sector.

porpoise (Phocoena phocoena), bottlenose dolphin (Tursiops truncatus) and
Risso’s dolphin (Grampus griseus). However, occasionally, orcas (Orcinus orca),
minke whales (Balaenoptera acutorostrata) and striped dolphins (Stenella coer-

The Long Distance Path (GR13) Via Algarviana connects Alcoutim to Cape Saint Vincent, stretching over
about 300 kilometres and running inland across the entire Algarve region, from east to west, through
the mountains, the craggy “barrocal” subregion, the hills and part of the Southwest Alentejo and Vicen-
tine Coast Nature Park.

Via Algarviana (Parises) mountains, with uphill stretches providing breathtaking views as far as the eye

The Long Distance Path (GR13) Via Algarviana connects Alcoutim to Cape Saint Vincent, stretching over

the mountains, the craggy “barrocal” subregion, the hills and part of the Southwest Alentejo and Vicen-

This connection starts next to the Albufeira Tourist Information Office, heading
