Research Question

In order to provide guidance to the goals of the study, two research questions

were specified. The questions that guide the study are as follows:

Research Question 1: Are there any effects of participation in athletics on

academic performance among high school sophomores and juniors?

Research Question 2: Are there any differences in those effects between the types

of sports students participate in?

Answering these research questions increased the understanding of the

relationship between academic performance and athletic participation. Additionally, the
cross sectional examination of the type of sport engaged in and the academic
performance of the participant allowed this study to provide further information to the

literature.

The research questions of the study were structured in order to provide a straightforward
assessment of the relationship between academic performance and athletic participation. The
methodology that was utilized to answer the research questions will now be presented.
