ndestructible Standards

I'm born to satisfy their standards.

I'm constantly living to meet what others want.

Every time I walk around I would hear "Nene, you must be that”, "Nene, you must be
this”.

I'm doing every single thing not just for myself but also to fulfill other’s high standards
and expectations.

We're living in a world of freedom so why I am not supposed to show who I really am?

Every action I have made is evaluated and graded based on their standards. Yet, I think
my grade is below average.

Every night, whenever I am in front of a mirror, I stare at my reflection while asking

myself, “Who am I?”

And my mind answers back, “You are someone's representation of a standard.”

You know the actual reason? It’s because every action you've made was to satisfy their
standards. You are not being true to yourself. You are hiding the inner you. You can't
even express what you want to express because you are a prisoner of everyone’s
standards. You are enclosed in this set of expectations which you think you should
meet, or else, you’ll be a huge chunk of disappointment.

I always tell myself to change this toxic habit but I end up listening and filling in their cup
of standards anyway.

There are different kinds of cup of standard —the beauty, intellectual quotient,
emotional quotient, etc.

To start with the beauty cup, there are too many ways to fill it yet no one ever had the
chance to get over it because it is not as easy as abc to fill. Yet, the standard is way too
high to satisfy.

Next, the EQ or emotional quotient cup. All of us have different kinds of personalities,
yet we still have to satisfy their standards. I must be that Godly type of person where I
patiently understand everyone, kindly treat the people around me, and say yes to
anything that favors anyone but me.
And, the intellectual quotient or IQ cup. Yeah it can be tested yet it has its unique
standard based on personal definition of intelligence. You must be on A honor list or top
list for them to be satisfied. Satisfaction that only certificates and medals every
recognition rites provide.

I am afraid of the society, and I'm afraid of being judge by everyone but I finally
understand the real meaning of life where you have to be true to yourself because if
you're always filling several cups of other people’s standards, you wouldn't get to know
the real you. It is simply because you are always seeing yourself as someone else’s
representation.

Each and everyone have their own standard, yet you don’t have to satisfy it because
that is their own personal standard. Yes, you heard it right. You're not required to fill it.
Following other people’s wishes and ignoring your very own desires by meeting their
standards would hurt you more than it will do any good to your life. So trust me when I
say that you can destroy it by showing them the real you.

A truly strong person does not need the approval of others any more than a lion needs
the approval of a sheep. Be yourself and don’t let others define who you are.
