Auxiliary Verbs
What are auxiliary Verbs: They are helping verbs
There are two types.
Primary Auxiliaries: a) Be: am, is, are, was, were, being, been
b) Has: has, have, had
c)Do: do, does, did
Modal auxiliaries:
can, could, may, might, shall, should, will, would, must, ought to

Idioms
Idioms are phrases which should be understood figuratively. To communicate
effectively and accurately with the native speakers of English, we must be
thorough with a wide range of idioms.
Ex.3 Underline the idiom in each sentence and then match those idioms with their
meaning.
1. Charlie was bragging about being chosen for Martial Arts class, but after seeing his
master’s stern look on the first day, he was ready to jump ship.
2. Politicians make fascinating promises. However, they are not materialized until the
cows come home.
3. Music fans around the globe see the performances of Harry Styles and Justin Bieber
as apples and oranges but comparing them to that of Michael Jackson is like comparing
rusty bicycles to an original Lamborghini.
