National High School STUDENT LEARNING GUIDE IN SCIENCE 10

Quarter II, Week 1

Lesson 1: Wavelengths of Different EM Waves

MOST ESSENTIAL LEARNING COMPETENCY

S10FE-IIa-b-47: Compare the relative wavelengths of different forms of Electromagnetic

waves.

In this set of activities, you should:

1. label the different forms of Electromagnetic waves based on wavelength;
2. determine the arrangement of different forms of Electromagnetic waves
according to wavelength; and
3. compare the wavelength of different forms of Electromagnetic waves.

WHAT YOU NEED TO REMEMBER?

Good day Maylinian! Let us enjoy as we learn about the different EM waves 😊

 A wave is a disturbance that transfers energy.
 Parts of wave:
 Crest is the highest point in the waves.
 Trough is the lowest point in the wave.
 Amplitude is the height of the wave.
 Wavelength is the spatial period, or space of the wave. The distance over which the wave's shape repeats.
So basically like crest to crest.

 Electromagnetic waves or EM waves are waves that are created because of vibrations between an electric field
and a magnetic field.
 Electromagnetic waves are formed when an electric field meets a magnetic field.
 James Clerk Maxwell formulated the Electromagnetic Wave Theory which says that an oscillating electric
current should be capable of radiating energy in the form of Electromagnetic waves
 The Electromagnetic spectrum is a continuum of electromagnetic waves arranged according to frequency and
wavelength.
 Waves in the EM spectrum include the following from the longest wavelength to the shortest wavelength.
