— The power supply (–48 V DC) for the AIR is installed and tested at the site.
Do!
Products not connected to ground risk damage from overvoltage or overcurrent.
Always ground products according to instructions.

Adhere to the following for safety and operation reasons: The mechanical design
of the AIR is based on environmental conditions that are equal to or exceeding
class 4.1 as specified in EN 300 019-1-4 and GR-3178-CORE and thereby
respects the static mechanical load imposed on an AIR by wind at maximum
velocity. Wind loads in this document are calculated with reference to wind
pressure. For more accurate results, the specific terrain information for relevant
sites and geographical area where the AIR will be installed must be carefully
analyzed, considered, and calculated according to EN 1991-1-4.

5 Connect Cables
With the unit installed, the grounding cable, the optical cables, the EC light
cable, the RAE cable, the TX monitor cable, and the power cable can be
connected.
Make sure that all cable connectors are in good condition. Replace the connectors
if needed.
Because of space limitations, always connect the cables in the following order:
Prerequisites
Optical cables are fiber optic and must be handled with care. Never touch the
end-face of the optical connectors. Only remove protective covers right before
installation. Observe minimum allowed bending radii. For instructions on
installing the optical cable, see Installing Optical Cables for Main-Remote
Solutions.
For information on how to handle optical cables, see Handling SFP Modules and
Optical Cables.

(1) Use either a Torx T30 bit with a bit holder, or a 10 mm socket to connect the grounding cable.
Prerequisites
— Grounding kit
— The minimum grounding cable area is 16 mm² for copper cable, or a similar
cable.
— MET installed
Do!
Products not connected to ground risk damage from overvoltage or overcurrent. Always
ground products according to instructions.
Steps
1. Route the grounding cable from the MET at the site to the grounding point
on the AIR.
2. 10 mm or T30
Unscrew the two M6 bolts from
8 Nm the unit and connect the
grounding cable.

Warning!
High energy levels are present in this unit. Improper handling of the unit can lead to short
circuits that can result in serious injury. Exercise care when working with this unit.
Steps
Note: Make sure that all connectors are in good condition and replace if
needed. Model number is printed on the power connector. For 3-wire
power connector use model 7F2RS103B-0M16T1(RNT 447 36/01). For

6 Verify Installation
After the installation is completed, the grounding system, the AIR, and the
power supply system need to be verified.
(1) Ensure that the minimum bending radius has not been violated. For more information, see
Handling SFP Modules and Optical Cables.
7 Power Up AIR
After the installation has been verified, the unit can be powered up and the
optical indicators will show the status of the unit.
Prerequisites
The AIR must be powered up within 48 hours after installation even if the AIR is
not taken into service. The reason is to protect the internal units from local
climate conditions.
Do!
Products not connected to ground risk damage from overvoltage or overcurrent. Always
ground products according to instructions.
Caution!
Do not stand or work in front of an operational antenna, unless it has been verified or
documented that RF exposure levels are within specified safety limits.
Caution!
Excessive RF exposure can result in potentially adverse health effects. If it is suspected
that RF exposure limits may be exceeded, ensure that transmitting antennas are
switched off, or reduce output power whilst working with or near antennas.
For more information about RF EMF exposure, see Antenna Integrated Radio
Unit Description and Radio Frequency Electromagnetic Fields.
Steps

OFF
Ge6816B
Results
Once the power is switched on and the AIR is connected to baseband, the AIR is
loaded with the AIR-specific software. Optical indicators show the status of the
AIR.
For detailed information about optical indicators, see Antenna Integrated Radio
Unit Description and Indicators, Buttons, and Switches.
Note: After the radio power is switched on, it takes 20 to 30 seconds before the
slow flashing (0.5 Hz) starts. The operational indicator only flashes once
during this period.
The sliding cover can be closed to hide the optical indicators. Depending
on the work order, leave the sliding cover open or closed.
After successful installation, the site needs to be cleaned and the customer
site documentation needs to be handled.
1. Clean the site and remove objects such as wrapping paper and cable
clippings.

5. Hand over the Customer Site Documentation to the person responsible for
the site.
8.1 Environment
Ericsson strongly recommends that installers pay particular attention to the
environment when cleaning the site after installation.
Recycle all waste that can be recycled and sort the rest so that they can be
disposed of according to local regulations. Use the checklist in Table 5 for
recycling and sorting.
