Preliminary Concept for Skills and Job Fair

Rationale
Since 2008 Employment Fund has been providing skill training and support for employment to youth of
Nepal through private sector Training and Employment Service Providers (T&Es). Since there are many
actors working in skills and employment sector in Nepal, however, large chunk of youth who are
socially and economically deprived still do not have access to such opportunities. In this regard the
purposes of such fairs are to attract needy youth for skills training and employment and to have a long
term future prospects and relations with regards to income generation.

On the other hand there are pool of youth who have the zeal and passion to work, and hence, seeking
jobs to have a secured source of income. However, due to lack of awareness and market knowledge,
they lag behind in acquiring the right job that suits their skills although there is ample number of job
providers who are equally in search of skilled workers. Hence, this can be the arena where they get to
have an access to the skill providers and vice-versa.

Objectives of the Employment Fair:

 To inform the youth who are unemployed, poor, discriminated, wish to become an entrepreneur
after having skills about the opportunities of skill training and employment in their locality.
 To make the youth aware about the importance of skills in their life and make them understand
about the processes and procedures while entering into labor market in Nepal, be it for job or self
employment.
 To provide skill and employment counseling service to the youth in their locality.
 To provide a common ground for job providers and job seekers meet and fulfill each other’s needs.

Proposed Date and locations:

Chitwan: 19 to 22 December, 2013
Biratnagar: 23 to 26 January, 2013

Participants:
 All EF and non-EF training providers active in the region 1
 All CTEVT, FNCCI, FNCSI, various associations and other GoN trade and technical schools (incl. those
providing longer term courses)
 Any local/ regional organizations active in entrepreneurship development, counseling, (overseas)
information provision, etc.
 Providers of financial services (such as banks, cooperatives, etc.)
 Job providers like various contractors, associations, etc.

The simple but clear rule will be that anyone can be present with a stall as long as this organization is
offering skill and employment services for youth (i.e. we will not allow pure project or NGO
presentation stalls which have nothing to offer to our target group).

Basic implementation:

It will be a 4-day programme to be conducted in the most accessible location. There will be stalls for
two sections; one is for the job providers and the other for skill provider T&E, resource organizations,
etc). So, there will be two markets: job market and skill market under the same roof.

1
Different private, I/NGOs, governmental organizations which are providing skills training from working in the
region are also intended to include in this fair.
