Experiment no.2 Date of Submission: 06/ 30/ 2023

Name: Mark Gino M. Cano Instructor: Engr. Ma. Aimee Yabao

1. Tie an object to the end of a string and swing it around in a horizontal circle above your head
(swing at your wrist). Maintain uniform speed as the object swings and measure the angular
velocity of the motion.
ANGULAR VELOCITY
2 π rad
GIVEN: time :30 s ∆ θ=48 rev × =301.59 rad
1rev
Solution :
∆θ
Angular Velocity=
∆t
301.59 rad
Angular Velocity=
30 s
Angular Velocity :10.053 rad / seconds

a. What is the approximate speed of the object?

the ruler where the length of the
ruler is 30cm

1m
GIVEN: ω=10.053 rad /seconds r =45 cm × =0. 4 5 m
100 cm
Solution : v=rω
v=(10.053 rad / seconds)(0. 4 5 m)
v=4.52 meter / seconds

b. Identify a point close to your hand and take appropriate measurements to calculate the
linear speed at this point.
1m
GIVEN: ω=10.053 rad /seconds r =25 cm× =0.25 m
100 cm
Solution :
LINEAR SPEED :rω
LINEAR SPEED :(10.053 rad / seconds)(0.25 m)
LINEAR SPEED :2.51 meter /seconds
C. Identify other circular motions and measure their angular velocities.
1. Right hand straight to the right, swings to vertical
2 π rad
GIVEN: time :20 s ∆ θ=30 rev × =188.50 rad
1 rev
Solution :
∆θ
Angular Velocity :
∆t
188.50 rad
Angular Velocity :
20 s
Angular Velocity : 9.425rad /seconds
2. Right hand straight to the front, swings to horizontal
2 π rad
GIVEN: time :15 s ∆ θ=21 rev × =131.95 rad
1 rev
Solution :
∆θ
Angular Velocity :
∆t
131.95 rad
Angular Velocity :
15 s
Angular Velocity : 8.80rad /seconds

3. Right hand straight to the front, swings to vertical

2 π rad
GIVEN: time :10 s ∆ θ=12 rev × =75.398 rad
1 rev
Solution :
∆θ
Angular Velocity :
∆t

Angular Velocity :
10 s
Angular Velocity : 7.54 rad /seconds

at the same time?
After conducting the experiment, I have observed that when I drop the spoon, marble, and the
ball at the same height they do not drop at the same time it’s because there is a difference
between there masses and surface area it affects their time of landing and it’s because I have
conducted the experiment not in a vacuum, considering the air resistance resulting the objects
to fall at different time.

If you drop a piece of paper as well, does it behave like the other objects? Explain your
observations.
The paper does not behave like other objects, considering its mass being lightweight and having
much larger surface area than the other objects, will be affected by air resistance the most, and it
will experience a more significant delay in reaching the ground compare to the other objects.
