Special Infantry Units

The French Army always included special infantry units. usually battalion-sized, formed for emergencies or for specialized
combat missions. These commonly were referred to as Troupes Hors Ligne" outside" or “in addition to” the standard
formations of the irregular service. They were generally considered light infantry and so used its terminology.
