Section - I
A. Answer the following questions in short. 14 x 2 = 28

concluded that the digestive system alone could transport nutrients to
every cell in the body.
i. Is the conclusion drawn by the student correct?
ii. Give reason for the above answer.
2. A student observed the slides of the cross-sections of two blood vessels,
A and B, under a microscope. The following table lists the observations
made by the student.
Slide Nature of Wall
A Thick
B Thin
i. Identify the blood vessels A and B.
ii. Mention one function each of blood vessels A and B.
3. The human heart has four chambers, two atria and two ventricles. A
partition separates the right chambers from the left chambers. Why is
the partition between these chambers necessary?
4. Plants like sugarcane, potato and rose do not always produce fertile
seeds.
i. Suggest a method of reproduction in such case.
ii. Mention the parts of these plants that may be used for the suggested
method of reproduction.
5. A student measured his heart rate with the help of a stethoscope and
then measured his pulse rate by placing the index finger on the left wrist.
i. What relation might have been noticed by the student in the heart rate
and pulse rate?
ii. Give a reason for his observation.
6. Compare the cutting and grafting methods for the artificial propagation
of plants.
7. A car travels a distance of 150 km in 2 hours. Calculate its speed in SI
units.
8. If an object is placed at a distance of 2.5 m in front of a plane mirror.
What will be the distance between the object and the image formed by
the mirror? Why?
9. If the angle between the incident ray and the surface of a smooth,
polished surface is 30°, then what is the value of the angle of reflection?
Why?
10. i. Draw a diagram to show three 2V cells connected in parallel combination.
ii. What will be the total voltage of the parallel combination of cells?
11. An object is kept at infinity in front of a convex mirror. Draw a ray
diagram to represent the image formed in this case.
12. A student performs an experiment where
a wire is wrapped around a nail as shown
in the image. As she completes the
circuit, she notices that a nearby nail
gets attracted to the nail wrapped in the
wire.
i. Why did the nearby iron nail get
attracted to the nail wrapped in the wire?
ii. Can this iron nail wrapped in the wire
attract the plastic cans?
13. Why do cows have four-chambered stomach?
14. Reena kept two plane mirrors perpendicular to each other. She placed an
object between the two plane mirrors at an angle of 90°. Calculate the
number of images that will be formed in this case?

Section - II
B. Answer the following questions as directed. 12 x 3 = 36
15. The fire brigade reached in time and extinguished a fire in a house
nearby. A fireman confirmed that a current of high magnitude passed
through a given wire and caused it to melt. Is the statement given by the
fireman correct?
16. A student performs an
experiment where he uses
a heating coil to heat the
water as shown in the
image. The initial
temperature of the water is
measured as 10°C. After
switching it on for 5 min,
the student records the
temperature of the water as 18°C.
The water is allowed to return back to its initial temperature. The
activity is then repeated with another heating coil having half the length
of the original heating coil. He notices that after 5 min the temperature
of the water reads 14°C.
i. Which effect of electric current is observed in this activity? (1 mark)
ii. What can be concluded from this activity? (2 marks)
17. An electrician wants to prevent damage to electrical appliances in a
house due to a sudden rise in the amount of electric current. What can
be done to avoid damage?
18. Blood vessels are special
tubes through which the blood
flows in the human body. An
image of a blood vessel is
shown below. Answer the
following questions based on
the image.
i. Name the type of blood vessel shown in the image. Why do these blood
vessels have thinner walls? (2 marks)
ii. Justify the presence of valves in these vessels. (1 mark)

19. Which property of a conducting wire is utilised in making an electric
fuse? Can we use the same fuse in a geyser and a television set? Explain.
20. What is the difference between temporary teeth and permanent teeth?
21. Different types of seeds of different plants are listed below.

i. Which seed is most likely to be dispersed by water? Why? (1 mark)

ii. The seeds of dandelion disperse through the wind. Which among the
given types of seeds could be a dandelion seed? Why? (2 marks)
22. The picture shows a model of the water cycle. X is an empty box.

What should be placed in box X to make the model work? Why?

a. ice cubes
b. clay
c. lit bulb
d. sand

23. The diagram shows different levels of the Earth’s surface. 1, 2 and 3 are
the different levels.

i. Which level contains groundwater?

ii. Why does groundwater contain less impurities than surface water?
24. Can you replace the side mirror of a car with a plane mirror? Why?

25. The picture shows parts of a flower. P, Q, R and S are the four labelled
parts.

i. Identify the parts of the flower that are labelled as P, Q, R, S.

ii. Removal of which part of the flower will NOT stop reproduction in the
plant?
iii. Why is part P brightly coloured in most flowers?
