1. Who was/were the speaker/s and what did He/she/they Talk about?

- The speakers are Ar. Shyrene Perez-Sala and Ar. Cathy Saldaña. They talk about merging and emerging
lifestyle, from Ar. Sala she discussed about the Insights on post covid 19 Lifestyle Hospitality and Travel
Trends while Ar. Saldaña talked about Architecture in Fusion

2. Which part of the Talk had the most impact in you?why?

- Ar. Sala quoted that “During this tough times always be greatful everyday” because  expressing genuine
gratitude on a daily basis can improve our physical health as well as our mental health especially to this
time of pandemic. Aside from that is doing good for others,it make us feel good. Help those who
needed it, by making this possible you can give some help to the community pantry. The community
pantry, as it is known, bore a sign: Give what you can, take what you need. Began as a humble cart with
free vegetables and canned goods. I’m planning to contribute on this kind of giving. It also gives me a lot
of joy.

3. What particular object item was discussed by the speaker, that you can relate with your
architectural practice?

- The speaker discussed about the used of flexible used of space, like making a several rooms in one
which bed can hide and so floor space can use as a lounge area and sitting area and home space. While
to enjoy the view on the balcony , Bi fold doors can be used, it also look like an extension of the living
area. And for the hygiene safety, it suggest to have a touchless checkpoint , touchless guest room lock,
Motion activated Doors, Voice control commands, Virtual access to medical staff. And guestroom must
be flexible enough to allow people and to have a multiple activity within the same space. Limited
furniture pieces and can design elegantly but can easily maintain. Because of Covid 19 social gathering is
prohibited but it suggest the amenities can be connected but in distance in order to emphasize share
experiences. Likewise flexibility and adaptability are key considerations in designing like hotel, in amidst
of covid this can be reinvited for emergency design interventions by transforming spaces for medical
used and Isolation.

4. What new Idea/Concept/ Principle have you learned that you think will affect your professional
practice or life General?

- Applying natural ventilation and sustainability. Because natural ventilation is a healthy and cost
effective way to save energy and provide fresh air for building occupants. It is defined as using passive
strategies to supply outdoor air to a building’s interior for ventilation and cooling without using
mechanical systems. While sustainability minimize the negative environmental impact of buildings by
efficiency and moderation in the use of materials, energy, development space and the ecosystem at
large. However, COVID-19 affects physical health most directly and has alarming implications for
emotional and social functioning . So as an Architect making a sustainable design could help by making a
healthier environment.

“Obtaining a progressive practice”. This is important because we need not only to keep in step with
rapid technological changes , construction processes but also to lead the industry. Adopting advanced
technologies in our practices and upgrade our skill and competence so that we can qualified to the
future advancement of our design.

3. What particular object item was discussed by the speaker, that you can relate with your
architectural practice?

The speaker discussed the used of sunscreen, it can act as a permanent piece of artwork that harnesses
and expresses the movement. It has the double benefit of mitigating the harsh sun and heat while
simultaneously providing visual interest to a facade. The second is the used of Solar Panel it represents
a clean, green source of energy, it can contribute to a sustainable future. Lastly the used of Plastic
Barrier, These barriers are often made out of acrylic (Plexiglass) or polycarbonate plastics, which are
lighter weight, more easily shaped, and have much greater impact resistance than glass. The purpose of
this was to consult with public health and industry to identify best practices in the design, installation,
and maintenance of transparent partitions to ensure that they are most protective of public health.

- The speakers is Ar. Theodore Chan, he talk about Architectural starp-up 101: Are you ready for the
future?”

2. Which part of the Talk had the most impact in you?why?

- “Encouraging the younger generation of Architects to start-up” or to “fly solo”, feel the heat of project
leadership and responsibility because as what the speaker said it is the only way to improve your
professionalism. Even though being a freelancer in this profession is not easy, because nowadays
construction industry is affected by this pandemic and sometimes your first clients may come from
relationships built during your time as an employee. How ever there are many benefits being a
freelancer Architect in terms of control, flexibility and freedom, but it will likely be your life’s greatest
challenges. You just have to study and understand your strength, weaknesses, opportunities and threats
and become a successful freelancer Architect.

3. What particular object item was discussed by the speaker, that you can relate with your
architectural practice?

- The speaker discussed about the schedule of practice scope, this include preliminary, concept design,
developed , documentation, tender, contract administration and post completion. This is important in
the architectural practice so that to acquaint the architect with the actual conditions of the project,
enable to evaluate the negative features of the land and take them into consideration in developing the
design and plans. At the same time it is also important to understand also the cost of running practice
such as salary, rent, overheads, reserves, software and etc.

4. What new Idea/Concept/ Principle have you learned that you think will affect your professional
practice or life General?

“Architecture is more than just beautiful forms. Architects must care the environment or as healers of
the built environment and use as little resources as possible”. Architects also need to make buildings
more green and adaptable to our surroundings.  We need to avoid the sick building syndrome and create
buildings that are energy efficient. Architects need to design ecosystems to be healthier and lessen the
pollution impact on the earth today and to the future.

1. Who was/were the speaker/s and what did He/she/they Talk about?

- The speakers is Ar. Lam Khee Poh, he talk about Revisiting Architectural Leadership.

2. Which part of the Talk had the most impact in you?why?

- Our design must consider Humanity. As human centred designers, put people at the center of our
process. Custom designing environments to the experiences in which our clients want to live. Houses are
such personal places and it is important to we begin every design with an intimate understanding of the
people we are designing for. Because designing a house is really about designing a set of experiences .
The space we design will profoundly influence our clients’ daily lives, shaping how they connect and how
they feel the seasons across the years.

3. What particular object item was discussed by the speaker, that you can relate with your
architectural practice?

Architects need to make buildings that are friendly to the environment and more green which can be
adaptable to the surroundings, in other words, they need to create buildings that are energy efficient,
like green buildings or sustainable buildings which are designed to reduce the overall impact of the built
environment on human health and nature. So they need to take into consideration. Protecting residents’
health and improving people’s productivity and reducing waste, pollution, and environmental
degradation.

4. What new Idea/Concept/ Principle have you learned that you think will affect your professional
practice or life General?

“Adapting the sustainability concept”, as an architect, I have a major role in promoting, planning, and
building sustainable and green structures that will help lessen negative impacts on the environment and
are equally immensely beneficial to people. And aims to reduce the built environment’s greenhouse gas
emissions and fossil fuel consumption and accelerate the development of carbon-neutral, resilient, and
sustainable buildings. Another way to decrease the carbon footprint of buildings is through adaptation
and retrofitting of existing buildings. Locally and sustainably sourced, reusable, have recycled content,
and are highly durably yet have low or zero carbon. Investing in green and sustainable technologies for
structures has long-term benefits.

What we need to learn to Singapore is that we don’t let our city to be congested because the most
populated city brings the highest positive cases of covid 19. As an architects what we need to do is to try
to develop not only in metro manila but to other cities like in Iloilo, Naga city, Vigan, Cagayan and etc.
that will help lessen the population in the capital city. And so that we can now focus on adapting the
concept of sustainability. Alco Collaboration is so much further to the people we use to collaborate not
only to the Engineers, but also we got to collaborate to the Doctors, to the scientist, with the research
workers so that we can get an idea on how to solve this pandemic.
