Risk Assessment: Painting


Paint is a chemical. Any chemical spills can cause ground pollution. If paint is spilled on the ground it
must be reported and cleaned immediately. The soil which has been contaminated must be removed
and disposed of as chemical waste.

Paint spills can cause slipping hazards and must be cleaned.

When painting ensure the area is well ventilated as the fumes can cause dizziness, drowsiness,
nausea, vomiting or headaches. If the area has poor ventilation, respirators must be worn.

Always wear safety glasses as paint can splash into your eyes.

Avoid skin contact with paint. If skin contact occurs, the paint must be washed off immediately.

Place paint drum in a drip tray or on plastic sheets to avoid paint spills.

Always use your leg strength to lift paint drums.

PPE to be worn:

 Full body suit


 Safety shoes
 Safety glasses
 Gloves
 Respirator
