I.

INTRODUCTION

A. Background of the Study


Mental health refers to the overall psychological well-being of an individual. It includes the
ability to handle and cope with stress, have positive relationships, and make effective decisions.
Mental health encompasses emotional, social, and psychological stresses that one may
experience in life. It is important to maintain good mental health as it plays a significant role in
one's overall health and quality of life. Mental health issues can be caused by various factors
including genetic, environmental, and biological.

B. Statement of the Problem


This mini research will help the researcher determine the factors that affecting the mental health
of grade 10 student at Oriental Mindoro Academy. Specifically, it will answer the following
questions:

1. What are the factors that affect the mental health of students?
2. How can we prevent these mental health problems?

C. Significance of the Study


This research aims to give information about the mental health and to know how to prevent
mental health problems, also what are the factor that affects their mental health.

II. LITERATURE REVIEW

According to Clearly (2011), the entrance to the university marks a period of transition for
people. Through this transition, studies, adjusting to the academic demands of an ill-structed
learning environment, and interacting with diverse range of new people.
In addition, many students must, often for this first time, leave their homes and distance
themselves from their support networks. These difficulties may have an impact on higher
education students' mental health and general wellbeing, claims Macaskill. There is proof that
students experience a burden on their mental health once they enrol in college, however this
pressure does seem to diminish as they progress through their studies. (Macaskill, 2013) (Mey
and Yin,2015).
According to Kessler (2017), the probabilities of experiencing common psychological
problems, such as depression, anxiety, and stress, increase throughout adolescence and reach a
pick in early adulthood.

III. METHODOLOGY

A. Research Design
We the researcher used quantitative research design. Systematic sampling technique was
used to determine the factor affecting the mental health of students and to prevent the mental
health problems.

B. Participants
Our respondent are 20 selected student in grade 10 Cassiopeia of Oriental Mindoro
Academy.
C. Data Gathering
The researcher will ask permission from the selected student to answer the survey
questionnaire.

D. Statistical Treatment
Mean (Ungrouped Data)

Survey Questions:
1. What factors affect your mental health?
 Academic Stress  Bereavement
 Family Problems  Discrimination
 Friendless

2. What did you do to prevent your mental health problems?


 Opening your problems to your  Focus on positivity.
friend  Try a relaxing activity.
 Get a good night sleep.  Connect with others.

IV. RESULTS AND FINDINGS

Factors Affecting Your Mental Health:


Based on the data gathered,most
of the respondents answered that they
get 6-7 hours of sleep everyday.It
topped the survey with 50%.
Meanwhile, 4-5 hours follows the rate
with an average of 40%. On the other
hand more than 8 hours got the
percentage of 10%.

Factors that affect sleeping hours:

of the respondents answered school
activities as the greatest factors that
affect their sleeping hours. It topped
the survey with 90% . Meanwhile,
stress follows the rate with an average
of 10%. On the other hand, none of the
respondents picked health condition and specify their common factors that affect their
sleeping hours

V. CONCLUSION AND RECOMMENDATION

It is concluded that there's a lot of factors that can affect the mental health of students
but family problems are the most common factor that affect their mental health. Family
problem are when conflict between or related to family members becomes especially
intense or frequent, to the point that it interrupts your day-to-day life. People used to
think or focus on positivity to prevent their mental health. There's also a lot of prevention
you can do for your mental health. You can open your problems or try to connect with
others. Avoid self-criticism and treat yourself with respect and care. Or extend your
horizons. Make time for your interests and favourite tasks. Try learning to play an
instrument, growing a garden, dancing, doing crossword puzzles every day, or learning a
foreign language well.
