In some countries around the world men and women

are having children late in life. What are the reasons

for this development? What are the effects on society
and family life?

Among young generations, giving birth late has become a trend and most of them
tend to have kids after their 30s in many countries. This social phenomenon is caused
by the variation and development in different places, which could lead to irreversible
effects on society.

One of the reasons why people choose to have children later than decades ago is that
the education period becomes longer. In the past students can find a job after they
graduate from college and some even did not finish high school. However, things
have changed nowadays since most people continue to receive higher education and
get master’s degrees to find better jobs. Some students in specific majors like
medicine even have to study until 30 years old to handle all the professional
knowledge and skills.

On the one hand, the tendency of giving birth late may bring several negative
outcomes. The most visible one is the decrease in the population because in a certain
period of time, three generations of people now only become two generations. A
declining birth rate would cause an insufficient workforce, and there will be not
enough people to fit every job. Simultaneously, generation gaps will appear between
young people and their parents, which leads to social conflicts.

However, the longer period citizens receive education, the more value they will create
after they graduate from school. The contribution they made can be beneficial to the
technological development and the international influence of the country. The
proportion of low-level labor in society will be declined, and those highly
sophisticated people can bring more innovation to their fields because they have
studied deeply for this knowledge.
