A Detailed Lesson Plan in Mathematics

Statistics and Probability

I. CONTENT STANDARD

The learner demonstrates understanding of...

 The key concept of measures of central tendency of ungroup data, mean, median, and
mode.

II. PERFORMANCE STANDARD

The learner is able to....

 Collect and organize data systematically and compute accurately measures of central
tendency of ungroup data.

III. OBJECTIVES

At the end of the lesson, 75% of the students are expected to:
a. define Measures of central tendency of ungroup data: Mean, Median, Mode;
b. calculate Mean, Median, Mode of ungroup data; and
c. apply the concept of measures of central tendency of ungroup data in computing
grades in a simple research.

IV. SUBJECT MATTER

Topic: Measures of Central Tendency of Ungrouped Data

Reference: Grade 8 - Mathematics Learner's Module Pp. 491 - 502

Materials: Calculator, Cartolina, Tape Measure
Skills: Critical thinking, Computing and solving skills, Accuracy, Speed, and Problem solving
Methodology: 4A's( Activity, Analysis, Abstraction and Application )
Concepts:
 Measures of central tendency - a statistical measure that gives information regarding the
central location of the score relative to the entire set of data.
 Mean - is the most popular measure of central tendency and sometimes layman calls it
"average"
 Median - is a positional measure that divides the distribution into two equal parts when the
data is arranged in order.
 Mode - is the observation that occurs frequently in the data and the observation that occurs
more than once.

V. EVALUATION

I. Solve the following problems.

1. Suppose that Nikki is aiming to be awarded as Cum laude and the general weighted average for Cum
laude is 95, what should be the grade of Nikki in her 9th subject?

Subject 1 2 3 4 5 6 7 8

Grade 93 91 94 95 93 98 97 96

2. The heights of 12 students were measured in cm and the results were 142, 149, 135, 150, 128, 140,
149, and 157. Find the mean, median and mode.

VI. ASSIGNMENT

1. Research and study on the measures of central tendency of the group data; Mean, Median, and
Mode.
