Stage 3: Learning Experiences/Classroom

Activities
Teacher will have the list of vocabulary words posted on the board for students when
they come in. Students will write the words in their vocabulary notebooks and use
the time before class starts by the bell to find the definitions of those words using
their phones or laptops (if available), or classroom dictionaries. (3 min before class
starts)

After the bell rings, teacher will ask each student for a definition they found and will
make any clarifications (3 min)

Teacher will then explain the activities for the day. There are 3 rotating activities,
each taking about 7 minutes to complete. Teacher will put students into groups and
assign each group to start with one of the activities, either the Edpuzzle video, the
small talk scenarios, or the name usage worksheet. Teacher will explain the
directions for each (Edpuzzle for listening is just a video with quiz attached, small
talk scenarios are strips of paper with small talk topics written on them, groups will
draw a slip and create a discussion for speaking based on that topic for about two
minutes then get a new topic, they are free to look up a word and add it to their
vocabulary notebook if needed, lastly the worksheet is for reading the article and for
listening to the pronunciations linked on the title words and then match the right title
to the right person that is pictured) (22 min)

Using paper and pencil (or laptops if available) students will be assigned a person
(Mr. mrs. doctor, professor, coworker, boss, child, etc) and will write a small talk
conversation script with at least three exchanges between the two individuals. They
may take this home as homework if needed. (5 min)

Scaffolding: Edpuzzle video allows for replay as needed as well as captioning

for reading while listening. Teacher will use gestures and facial expressions to
emphasize communication. Pictures are used in the Name usage worksheet,
especially since there is a lot of reading involved.

Differentiation: Students, if behaving well, may have the option to choose

their own groups. There are also multiple activities happening so students are stuck
in a lecture all class period long, students, again if behaving well, may also have the
option to use their beloved phones to look up definitions to practice their vocabulary.

Reflection: Teacher can use GoReact or Zoom to record their lesson and watch
it later, even share with another trusted mentor teacher, to reflect on what went well
and what did not within a week after teaching.
