ACKNOWLEDGEMENT
First and foremost, the researchers would like to thank God for giving them the opportunity,

strength and knowledge, and for the ability to make their study successfully because without Him this

research would not be possible.

Second, the researchers would like to thank their parents for not giving up on them, financially

supporting them in this endeavor, and for being their inspiration to study hard and to reach their goals.

And lastly, the researchers would like to express their gratitude to Mrs. Shiella Tamelin for the

patience, understanding and knowledge that she imparted the researchers on what to do. It helped

the learners enhance their knowledge and thus become responsible students.

To all who have contributed in the realization of this work, their sincerest appreciation and

deepest gratitude.

ABSTRACT

The purpose of conducting this research is to determine the different kinds of effects that are

dealt via animal conditioning. It aims to highlight the effects on the pets and also towards the owners,

while also observing and analyzing the different changes to the behavior of the said pet. The

researchers aspire to achieve these goals with the use of surveys, questionnaires and interviews with

selected students of Little Flower School Incorporated who are currently or have raised a pet at some

point in their life.

At the end of this research, the researchers hope to find out more about the specific area that

they are studying about, to the point wherein they can create a solid conclusion to their work.
CHAPTER 1
THE PROBLEM AND ITS SCOPE

RATIONALE

Nowadays, many people prefer to have a domesticated pet within their households. These pets can vary
from house cats to dogs, to birds, and others of the like. Regardless of their many differences, they all share one
similarity; their need to be familiarized with their new living environment.

It needs to be known that for a person to raise a pet, they must first learn to teach their companion about
their new abode. Raising an animal is a rather arduous task. One must know of the plenty of responsibilities it
carries. One such duty is to learn to train the said animal, into a tamed one. The method to train pets is called
conditioning.

How exactly was Classical Conditioning discovered? At the start of the twentieth century, something
occurred inside the lab of a Russian psychologist name Ivan Pavlov which brought him a Nobel Prize.
Something happened which led Ivan to experiment. At that time, Pavlov was studying digestion. To observe
salivation, he placed meat powder or something similar on a dog’s tongue and then measured the resulting flow
of saliva. However, after repeating this process a lot of times, Pavlov noticed that the dog drooled before the
food even reached their mouths. Sometime later, the dogs even slobbered when they just saw Pavlov enter the
room. At this point, Pavlov realized that some type of learning had occurred, and soon after he began
investigating. (Coon, Dennis; Mitterer, John O. (2008). Introduction to Psychology: Gateways to Mind and
Behavior. Cengage Learning. p. 220.)

The psychologist’s study involved him ringing a bell briefly before presenting his dogs with food. At
first, the dogs didn’t display any response to the bells, but over time the dogs began to salivate at the sound of
the bell alone. (Ibraheem Rehman; Navid Mahabadi; Terrence Sanvictores; Chaudhry I. Rehman, 2022). This
was an example instance of conditioning, wherein repeated patterns made the dogs respond with an instinctive
reaction.

In the modern day, conditioning is quite common, and it is, simply put, a type of learning in which an
animal learns (or, is conditioned) from its behaviors as it acts (operates) on the environment. Alongside this
activity, positive reinforcement is also provided to the animal undergoing conditioning.

In this study, the researchers aim to acknowledge those pet owners who do this kind of exercise with
their pets, as well as to evaluate good conduct influencing the behaviors of the pets and also to learn more about
this specific subject.
STATEMENT OF THE PROBLEM

Having conducted this study entitled “The Effects of Changing an Animal’s Behavior Through

Conditioning Done by LFS Pet Owner Students”, the following questions are ones that researchers

hope to address with this research:

1. Why is changing an animal’s behavior through conditioning advisable to animal owners?

2. How does the behavior of an animal that experienced conditioning differ from one that did not?

3. How can animal conditioning benefit the pet, as well as its owner?

4. How does giving importance to an animal’s behavior contribute to the animal’s health or well-

being?

5. How can we prevent the causes of an animal’s negative behavior?

6. How does the method of conditioning work on the animal?

SIGNIFICANCE OF THE STUDY

STUDENTS

The students will be aware of their abilities in creating an impact to an animal’s life. As growing

individuals, they will be able to use this study to have a better approach in raising animals in the

future. This study will help them understand more about animals’ behavior, thus boosting their

compassion and empathy towards pets.

COMMUNITY
Reading and learning of this research can provide the community awareness and remind them

the responsibilities of being a pet owner, as this study is conducted to not only introduce information

about the method of conditioning but to also explain the right processes of handling an animal.

RESEARCHERS

This study gives the researchers a much wider perspective about tamable animals. Since it

formally features how an animal responds and co-operates on the process of conditioning, this

investigation will pave the way for more fresh insights on animal behavior.
