Course Outline:
The U.S. National Safety Council’s DDC 4 (Training programme is comprised of four (4)
sessions of classroom training: 4 Hours/Half Day of training combining audio/visual and
instructor teaching.
The course is a behaviour modification approach to traffic safety intended to help drivers
sharpen hazard recognition skills and guide them on techniques to use when driving and
minimise the risk of collisions.
Extend the benefits of this course by taking what you learn today and sharing it with the
people who mean the most to you. From staying off the phone to practicing patience in
the most trying situations, let others know what they can do to be safer on the road.
In addition to the course guide content, the instructor provides and includes many
scenarios and examples tailored to Trinidad and Tobago regarding laws and regulations
and adapting to the dynamic roadway environment.
Participants will also be educated on how the new UTURN Demerit Point Licensing
System works and how to prevent accumulating points which can lead to suspension of a
drivers permit.
The National Safety Council saves lives by preventing injuries and deaths at work, in
homes and communities and on the roads, through leadership, research, education and
advocacy.
The exercise allows the assessor to give the driver a debriefing on his/her weaknesses and
strengths in specific areas:
Commentary Drive:
Participant is then asked to drive whilst performing a running commentary on what
hazards he/she is seeing. The exercise allows the Assessor to improve the drivers’ road
hazard recognition skills with a coaching system developed by the UK Institute for
Advanced Motoring - System of Car Control.
Each driver will have an individual /confidential assessment report.
