My Philosophy of Education

I. INTRODUCTION

As the common cliche goes, education is the only treasure no one can steal from

you- it’s like a diamond that makes you radiate from the crowd forever, it is like gold that

needs to be under fire to get that sparkle and shine, like an emerald that yields productivity

and hope and like silver that makes your mind twinkle for success. Education is something

that is worthy to spend time with, something worth all the struggles and sleepless nights

and something simply worth the wait. Every parent’s dream is for their child to finish school

and bring them home a diploma- the end game of every parent. Indeed, education is a

complex aspect of life, a privilege to some, a right to many.

Education in the Philippines is a extremely elaborate process of achievement. You

have to go through years of mastering the language and math skills. Every learning comes

from the books, modules and other written preferences. Thus, this makes things too

complicated because not of these written things are applicable to one’s real life journey, at

some point.

The realm of philosophy makes us understand that behind the pages of books are

challenges that learners need to endure, behind every tasks perform in class are

preparations for life and behind numerical grade given to us is never a definition of life.

Students need to learn, but they need to learn in a happy and stress free environment.
II. DISCUSSION OF YOUR OWN PHILOSOPHY OF EDUCATION

Coming from a family of church missionaries and pastors, I am exposed to

attending bible studies, Sunday school services and masses. At an early age, we are

tasked to join church chorale, summer and Christmas institutes and religious concerts.

During my years in secondary level, I am assigned to teach kids on Sunday school for kids

so they wont interrupt the adult mass. With that, I thought it would be a nice idea to

continue teaching as my profession.

I took up Secondary Education with English as my field of specialization. Then on,

college has been the best days of my life. Our dean used to call me “anak” and often

asked me to visit her office. With that kind of relationship I got from her, I most of the time

tell myself that I am really for this calling, I am really meant to be a teacher. From all these

experiences, I came to create and share my own philosophy of teaching, my philosophy of

education.

My Philosophy of Teaching always revolves on the real purpose of education- to

share knowledge that is applicable to the core problem of the society, to examine what is

vital for one’s growth and what is essential to our life’s real battle. Every school is an ideal

venue for knowledge transmission, development of skills and expertise and a place of fun

and excitement, but still I always make sure that every academic institution specifically my

classroom is an important place where mind and body will have a close interaction.

School is a learner’s training ground and the society is one’s battlefield. To endure

life, one must master the ability to listen during class and learn what’s the best. Be in good

terms with the learners even if assessing them.

Purpose of Education

ROLE OF THE STUDENT IN EDUCATION

Students are the core clients of any educational institution.Their main purpose is to

study, to learn and be equipped with the necessary skills needed in their chosen field of

specialization. In our country, children are sent to school to prepare them as patriotic

citizens and citizens with high regards of their chosen religion. They are covered with

multiple laws for protection because the government believes that students should be well

taken care of. With this, the morale of the teachers slowly diminish, as time comes, I must

say disappear. With my philosophy of education, I will make sure that the respect that I will

earn from my learners will never be based on the educational attainment that I have, but

with how I laid them the importance of education and with the inspiration that I will give

them by showing them that real life battle are in the society, not in the four corners of the

classroom.

ROLE OF THE TEACHER IN EDUCATION

A teacher plays a numerous roles in the lives of students. These roles are vital for

their holistic development. As a teacher, it is my role to ensure the well- being of my

learners- they are physically ready to learn, their mental state is prepared for various

activities and their totality as a person is equipped enough to embrace new challenges. It

is my role that my learners of different age and wavelength be accountable with the

consequences of their life decisions. It is my role that they love learning so that it is easier
for them to adjust in life battles. It is my role to show them that education is important and

they will rely on that up to their old age. These roles are sensitive yet vital. Attaching it to

my philosophy, this will definitely make these roles easy to deliver.

CURRICULUM DESIGN

Every curriculum design starts with the aims of objectives of an educational

community. This will serve as the anchor in the deliverance of all the goals that the school

needs to achieve. As part of this educational community, the least thing that I can

contribute in achieving these goals is to align all the learning materials, activities and

resources that I share with my learners. With this step, it will be very beneficial to all of us

in making it easy to apply the learnings they have in school plus their goal in obeying

school policies. As with my philosophy of education they will be able to harness which of

which are beneficial to them both academically and personally.
