RLE III 1
Dengue
Dengue is a viral infection transmitted
to humans to through the bite of
infected mosquitoes the primary
vectors that transmit the disease are
Aedes aegypti mosquitoes and, to a
lesser extent Ae. albopictus. The virus
responsible for causing dengue, us
called dengue virus (DENV).

Risk Factors:
age, sex, race, nutritional status, environment, previous dengue
infection, virus Strain, water storage practices, chronic disease

Etiology:
Dengue infection is caused by dengue virus (DENV) which is single-stranded RNA virus
with an icosahedral nucleocapsid and covered by a lipid envelope. The virus is in the family
Flaviviridae, genus Flavivirus, and the type specific virus is yellow fever
• Transmission of dengue virus into the host is through the vectors
