Andaman Sea basins – – 2014

MIAGS Geological Studies

New ideas and concepts from the Andaman Sea. A geological study
delivered in ArcGIS.
Myanmar–Indian Andaman Geological Study (MIAGS) allows to better understand the
tectonic and basin development and prospectivity of the East and Central Andaman,
Nth Sumatra, Mergui, Moattama, Moulmein and Tanintharyi basins of the Andaman
Sea.

Modern seismic coupled with academic intelligence has brought new concepts and
ideas for the Andaman Sea. Once thought a subduction with back-arc spreading
floored with oceanic crust is not what we see on the data. The data shows clearly
thick Cenozoic sediments throughout the Andaman Sea.

Modern conventional seismic from PGS's Andaman and North Sumatra MC2D as well
as publically available data from Myanmar were used for this cross border study.
