Rediscovering Rizal’s Brilliance: Unveiling His Exile Legacy in Dapitan City

Though pained by his banishment to Dapitan in northwestern part of Mindanao on July

17,1896 Jose Rizal used his time and skills productively to ease his solitude. This concept
note outlines the proposal for a case study focused on rediscovering the significant
contributions of Jose Rizal during his exile in Dapitan City. Jose Rizal, a renowned Filipino
national hero and polymath, spent four years in exile (1892-1896) in the remote town of
Dapitan, Philippines. This study aims to delve into the lesser-known aspects of Rizal's life
during this period and shed light on the lasting impact of his presence in Dapitan.
Thus, this paper seeks to present the footsteps and contributions of Rizal through his
exile life in Dapitan. This will provide a firm understanding on Rizal’s Legacy and how it
enriches the minds and lives of the Dapitanon’s and the rest of the Filipinos. The objectives
of this study are the following: 1) Uncover Rizal's activities and endeavors during his exile; 2)
Assess Rizal's influence on the local community; 3) Evaluate Rizal's intellectual and artistic
pursuits; and 4) Contextualize Rizal's exile within the broader historical and political
landscape.
The group's case study will be showcased in a captivating Digital Magazine designed
with Canva's creative tools. The cover page of the magazine will contain an overview and
title of the case study. The content of the digital magazine will showcase highlights of
pictures and story during his Exile in Dapitan City. A digital magazine replicates the format
and content of traditional print magazines, accessible through online platforms and devices.
