Discuss the functions and importance of the endoplamic reticulum in plant

cells, differentiating between smooth endoplasmic reticulum and rough

endoplastic reticulum.

- endoplasmic reticulums are very important organelles in the cell because,

this organelles have great contributions in maintaining smooth processes
inside the cell and without these, cell cannot function properly which could
cause unpleasant consequences. Some of the primary functions and purpose
of endoplasmic reticulums are production and transport of proteins, proetin
folding, synthesis of lipids and steroid hormones, glucose metabolism, and
calcium storage. The difference between smooth endoplasmic reticulum and
rough endoplasmic reticulum is that, smooth ER is responsible in lipid
metabolism and manufacture, detoxification of drugs and poisons, and
calcium storage. Meanwhile, rough ER’s main function circulates in protein
synthesis, modification and packaging of proteins that is being transported
throughout the cell. But, the main difference between rough ER and smooth
ER, is that, smooth ER lacks ribosome that is why it gives a smooth
appearance. Meanwhile, rough ER has ribosomes which is very vital for the
protein-synthesis function of the organelle.
