Significant Weather features:


❖ A cyclonic circulation lies over central Madhya Pradesh and extends upto middle tropospheric levels
tilting southwards with height.
❖ The Monsoon Trough is active and lies to the south of its normal position.
Weather Forecast and Warnings:
East India: Light/moderate fairly widespread to widespread rainfall/thunderstorm & lightning with
isolated heavy rainfall activity very likely over Odisha on 12th & 13th and over Andaman & Nicobar Islands
during 10th -13th September.
South India: Light/moderate fairly widespread to widespread rainfall with isolated heavy rainfall very
likely over ghat areas of Tamil Nadu, Puducherry & Karaikal on 10th and over Kerala & Mahe during 10th -11th
September.
Central India: Light/moderate fairly widespread to widespread rainfall/thunderstorm & lightning with
isolated heavy rainfall very likely over Madhya Pradesh on 09th & 10th September.
West India: Light/moderate fairly widespread to widespread rainfall/thunderstorm & lightning over
Konkan & Goa and Madhya Maharashtra during 09th-10th and over Gujarat Region on 09th September.
Northeast India: Light/moderate scattered to fairly widespread rainfall/thunderstorm with isolated heavy
rainfall activity very likely over Assam & Meghalaya and Nagaland, Manipur, Mizoram & Tripura during
09th-12th and over Arunachal Pradesh on 10th September.
Northwest India: Light/moderate isolated to scattered rainfall/thunderstorm with isolated heavy rainfall
activity very likely over Uttarakhand on 09th and over Uttar Pradesh during 09th-10th September.

Main Weather Observations:

❖ Rainfall distribution (from 0830 hours IST to 1730 hours IST of yesterday): at a few places over
Coastal Karnataka, East Uttar Pradesh, Bihar, Jharkhand and Sub-Himalaya West Bengal & Sikkim
and at isolated places over East Madhya Pradesh, Vidarbha, Konkan & Goa, Madhya Maharashtra,
Kerala & Mahe, Telangana, Chhattisgarh, West Uttar Pradesh, Gangetic West Bengal and Assam &
Meghalaya.

❖ Significant rainfall recorded (from 0830 hours IST to 1730 hours IST of yesterday): (in cm):
Dapoli-18; Chiplun-13; Savarde-12, Ram Mandir, Jhansi, Mahableshwar-8; Dewas, Jabalpur,
Navapur, Kannod, Raigad-7; Jamui, Rampur, Harnai-6; Karjat, Jhalda-5; Devgad-4.

❖ Yesterday, heavy to very heavy rainfall at isolated places over south Konkan and heavy rainfall
at isolated places over north Konkan, Madhya Maharashtra, Madhya Pradesh and southwest Uttar
Pradesh.

❖ Minimum Temperature Departures (as on 08-09-2023): Minimum temperatures were above


normal (1.6°C to 3.0°C) at most places over West Rajasthan; at many places over Punjab; at a few
places over East Rajasthan, Haryana-Chandigarh-Delhi, Sub-Himalaya West Bengal & Sikkim, Assam
& Meghalaya, South Interior Karnataka and at isolated places over Madhya Pradesh, Bihar, Arunachal
Pradesh, Konkan & Goa, North Interior Karnataka, Coastal Andhra Pradesh & Yanam, Odisha, Jammu-
Kashmir-Ladakh-Gilgit-Baltistan-Muzaffarabad, Coastal Karnataka, Gujarat Region. Thay were below
normal (-1.6°C to -3.0°C) at isolated places over Tamil Nadu, Puducherry & Karaikal, Telangana,
Uttarakhand, Kerala & Mahe and near normal over rest parts of the country. Yesterday, the lowest
minimum temperature of 20.5°C was reported at Betul (East Madhya Pradesh) over the plains
of the country.

❖ Maximum Temperature Departures (as on 08-09-2023): Maximum temperatures were


appreciably above normal (3.1°C to 5.0°C) at a few places over Jammu-Kashmir-Ladakh-Gilgit-
Baltistan-Muzaffarabad, West Rajasthan, Arunachal Pradesh and Assam & Meghalaya and at isolated
places over Himachal Pradesh; above normal (1.6°C to 3.0°C) at most places over Punjab; at many
places over Haryana-Chandigarh-Delhi; at a few places over East Rajasthan and Saurashtra & Kutch
and at isolated places over Uttarakhand, Gujarat Region and Nagaland, Manipur, Mizoram & Tripura.
They were below normal (-1.6°C to -3.0°C) at most places over Kerala & Mahe, Madhya
Maharashtra and Marathwada; at a few places over West Madhya Pradesh, Vidarbha, Telangana, West
Bengal & Sikkim and Bihar and at isolated places over Chhattisgarh, Odisha, Jharkhand and Uttar
Pradesh and near normal over rest parts of the country. Yesterday, the highest maximum
temperature of 42.8°C wass reported at Jaisalmer (West Rajasthan).

Meteorological Analysis (Based on 0530 hours IST)

❖ The Monsoon Trough at mean sea level now passes through Jaisalmer,
Udaipur, Raisen, Umaria, Ambikapur, Jamshedpur, Digha and thence east-
southeastwards to Northeast Bay of Bengal extending upto 2.1 km above mean
sea level.

❖ The cyclonic circulation over southeast Madhya Pradesh & neighbourhood now
lies over central Madhya Pradesh & neighbourhood extending upto 7.6 km
above mean sea level tilting southwards with height.

❖ The east-west shear zone roughly along Lat. 21° N between 3.1 & 7.6 km above
mean sea level persists.

❖ The Western Disturbance as a trough in westerlies with its axis at 5.8 km


above mean sea level now runs roughly along Long. 68° E to the north of Lat.
30° N.

❖ No significant change in maximum temperatures likely over most parts of
country during next 5 days.

❖ Heavy rainfall very likely at isolated places over Uttarakhand, East Uttar Pradesh, Madhya
Pradesh, Sub-Himalaya West Bengal & Sikkim Bihar, Assam & Meghalaya, Nagaland, Manipur,
Mizoram & Tripura, Konkan & Goa, Madhya Maharashtra, Gujarat Region, Tamil Nadu, Puducherry
& Karaikal, Kerala & Mahe.
❖ Thunderstorm with lightning & gusty winds (speed 30-40 kmph) likely at isolated places over
Kerala & Mahe, Lakshadweep; with lightning very likely at isolated places over Uttarakhand,
Uttar Pradesh, East Rajasthan, Madhya Pradesh, Vidarbha, Chhattisgarh, West Bengal & Sikkim,
Bihar, Assam & Meghalaya, Konkan & Goa, Madhya Maharashtra, Marathwada, Gujarat state and
Tamil Nadu, Puducherry & Karaikal.
❖ Squally wind speed of 45-55 kmph gusting to 65 kmph likely over Southwest and adjoining
