Answer the following

1. What do you understand by sorting a range of cells?

Sorting a range of cells in Excel refers to arranging the data within a selected
range in a specific order based on one or more criteria.

It allows you to organize the data in ascending or descending order, making it

easier to analyze and find information.

2. Name the two types of sorting.

1. Single-Column Sorting:

Single-column sorting involves arranging the data in a single column in a

specific order. This is useful when you want to sort the data based on a
particular attribute or criterion within that column.

2. Multiple-Column Sorting:

Multiple-column sorting allows you to sort the data based on multiple columns
in a specific order of priority. You can sort the data first by one column and
then by additional columns to further refine the sorting order.

3. What is filtering of data?

Filtering data in Excel involves displaying only specific rows that meet certain
criteria, while temporarily hiding the other rows.

It allows you to focus on relevant data and analyze information without

permanently altering the original data.

4. What is the difference between sorting and filtering?

❖ Sorting: Sorting refers to arranging the data within a selected range in a
specific order based on one or more criteria.

It rearranges the rows of data either in ascending or descending order.

❖ Filtering: Filtering, on the other hand, involves displaying only specific rows
that meet certain criteria, while temporarily hiding the other rows.

5. Explain the concept of formatting cells based on a condition. Write the steps

It is used to format the cells based on the set of specified conditions.

You can change the font, color, border, highlight and so on.

To apply conditional formatting follow the steps:

Step 1: Select the range of cells.

Step 2: On the home tab in the styles group, click on the drop down of conditional
formatting.

Step 3: Select a rule from the drop down list. Eg: Greater than.

Step 4: Select the formatting condition. Click OK.

You will observe that the cells are formatted according to the given condition.
