Smart India Hackathon (SIH):

Smart India Hackathon is a nationwide initiative to provide students with a platform to


solve some of the pressing problems we face in our daily lives, and thus inculcate a
culture of product innovation and a mindset of problem-solving. The first three editions
SIH2017, SIH2018 and SIH2019 proved to be extremely successful in promoting
innovation out-of-the-box thinking in young minds, especially engineering students from
across India.

Manipal Institute of Technology as Nodal Centre for SIH:

The Manipal Institute of Technology, MAHE, Manipal is one among the 41 colleges in


the country that are chosen to be the nodal centers for the event this year. It is the pride of
MIT to get an opportunity to host this remarkable for the third time this year.

SIH 2017: At Manipal Institute of Technology (Nodal Center)

The event was held continuously from 7:30 a.m. of 1 st April 2017 till 8:30 p.m. of
2nd April 2017, with the 250+ students and 100 + experienced IT professionals who are
mentors hailing from all over India. Approximately 46 teams rigorously rack their brains
to solve problem statements offered by University Grants Commission (UGC).
MIT was thrilled to host this event with the gracious presence of eminent chief guests
“Dr. N. Gopukumar, Joint Secretary, SWRO – UGC, Bengaluru and Smt. Priyanka Mary
Francis, Deputy Commissioner, Udupi”. The inaugural function presided over by Dr.
Narayana Sabhahit, Registrar, Manipal University, Manipal. The Director of MIT Dr.
Gopal Krishna Prabhu also graced this occasion. Dr. Preetham Kumar, Professor, Deputy
Registrar - Academics (Technical) was the Single Point of Contact from MIT for this
event.

 Total problem statements were 6 given by 4 companies (BEML Limited,


Mahindra Electric, Foundry Cluster Belgaum) in which 10 states have
participated.
 Total team participated: 36
 Total participants: 216 Girls-42; Boys-174; Mentors-16

4 teams from Manipal Institute of Technology have been selected to SIH grand Finale
Participated in Nodal Centers Jaipur, Nagpur, Hubli and NIT Warangal in which the team
participated at Jaipur won the prize.
On 2nd and 3rd March 2019, the Smart India Hackathon 2019 was successfully hosted at
Manipal Institute of Technology, Manipal.

Ms. Hephsiba Rani Korlapati, Deputy Commissioner of Udupi District was the chief
guest for the inaugural function on 2nd March 2019. MAHE and AICTE was represented
by Dr. Narayana Sabhahit, Registrar, MAHE and Ms. Aditi Gupta respectively. Later part
of the activity was supervised by Mr. Girish Hosur, Joint Secretary, MHRD and Ms Aditi
Gupta. In the night, at 10PM, students from our center had an opportunity to interact with
honourable Prime Minister, Sri. Narendra Modiji through video conferencing mode.

representing AICTE, Dr. Allabaksh
Naikodi, Senior GM & Head, Advance Technology, Mahindra Electric, and Mr. U K
Hasainabba, Executive Director (HR), BEML Limited. Jury members from Industry were
also part of the ceremony.
