Be Past Simple: Introduction

“Be past simple”. Because one of the most important
verbs in English is the "to be" verb.
So, here we go!

Okey, we are going to see the past simple of the verb


“TO BE”. The simple past is used principally to describe
events in the past.

The past simple of “TO BE” in English has two forms:


WAS and WERE. WAS is used for: I/HE/SHE/IT and
WERE goes to YOU/WE/THEY.

Here, we have some examples:


NOW: Joe is 70 years old. He is old.
(IS is the present tense)
PAST: Joe was 20 years old. (50 years ago)
(WAS is the past tense)

Let’s look at the subject “WE”


NOW: We are in class.
(ARE is the present tense)
PAST: We were at home. (An hour ago)
(WERE is the past tense)
