LITERATURE IN CARAGA
"My thoughts about having Literature in CARAGA”

The best illustration of "unity in diversity" is our region. Here, people from all
cultures and religions exist peacefully. Our region is renowned for its diversity of languages.
A special region that is home to several ethnic groups who speak various languages,
consume various meals, and dress differently. The fact that individuals always coexist in
peace in our place, despite its numerous disparities, is what distinguishes it.

Having a subject that discussed the literature of our very own region, the ‘CARAGA’,
makes my mind curious on how the history of our region starts before, and what it is today.
It has a lot of stories that we didn’t know from our ancestors, and until now they’ve been
passed on from time to time. Following sunset, our early ancestors would gather around the
fire and tell tales. These tales served two purposes: passing the time and helping the
audience understand the unsettling world outside. These legends were eventually used as
the foundation for the religion and history we know today. The stories were turned into
poems in some cases.

We study literature so that we are able to appreciate our literary heritage.

Understanding something is necessary for appreciation. We can trace the rich legacy of
ideas passed down to us from our ancestors by studying our literature. Then, we will be able
to appreciate who we are and be proud to be Filipinos. We must recognize that, like other
races around the world, we have a wonderful and honorable tradition that can be used to
absorb other civilizations. We will become aware of our literary limitations—which are
influenced by certain historical factors—through such a study, and we will be able to take
action to get past them. Above all, as Filipinos who genuinely cherish and value their
culture, we must demonstrate our sincere concern for their literature, which we may
accomplish.

One must read a country's literature in order to understand its history and spirit. This
is why it is necessary to "trace the little rills as they course along down the ages, broadening
and deepening into the great ocean of thought which men of the present source are
presently exploring" in order to truly understand a region. It is always crucial to study your
region's literature, regardless of your nationality. By doing this, you preserve the ideas,
convictions, and cultural peculiarities of your ancestors who made your country unique from
the rest of the world in addition to learning about the historical features of your country.
Everyone's region of origin has a rich cultural history.

Literature from a nation also provides information about its civilization that is not
strictly factual. Eyewitness testimony to historical events that we were not there at is
typically seen in literature. It is one person's description of a circumstance expressed via
their own personal sentiments. With the use of metaphor and evocative language, writers
have the ability to bring historical events to life, allowing us to picture what might have
happened hundreds or even thousands of years ago. It may also be claimed that the more
you study the literature of your region/nation, the more you learn about yourself and your
upbringing and the political and economic influences that the past has had on your place.

Through generations before us and colleagues, literature provides us the ability to

trace our identity—both nationalistically and personally. They assert that we will inevitably
repeat history if we don't learn from it. A reader can interact with history in a unique way
through literature. Compared to learning information or studying a timeline, it is
considerably more engaging. Even though the book is fictional and doesn't concentrate on a
particular incident, readers are nonetheless exposed to viewpoints from the period the text
was written. Practically speaking, reading will help you better comprehend both yourself
and other people. You may also come to see that people are basically the same all across
the world and begin to understand the importance of tales in defining who we are.

Additionally, literature has the potential to illuminate the significance of our own
existence. In conclusion, reading literature in school is essential for the development of
linguistic skills, cultural awareness, historical context, critical thinking, and personal
development. It can assist students in gaining knowledge and skills that are crucial to many
facets of their lives.
