Introduction and Daily Activities Material

A. Definition of daily activities


Daily activities (simple routine task) are activities carried out every day by humans,
from children, teenagers, adults and workers.

B. Social Function of daily activities


Social function of simple routine task is to inform the readers about someone’s
daily activity.

C. Generic structure of daily activities


Generic structure of the simple routine tasks text are :
1. Opening
The opening section contains an introduction of ourselves in order to attract
readers/listeners.
2. Content
The content section contains a series of activities that we do.
3. Closing
The closing part must be delivered well and more fun in order to make an
impression on the listener/reader.

D. Language features
1. Verb for daily activities
Kegiatan yang rutin dilakukan (habit) sehingga kata kerja yang digunakan
menggunakan simple present tense.
I / You / We / They + Verb 1
- I go to school from Monday until Friday. (Aku pergi ke sekolah dari Senin
sampai Jumat.)
- We always go home together after school. (Kami selalu pulang sekolah
bersama.)
He / She / It + Verb 1 + (s/es)
- She likes to read books every day. (Dia suka membaca buku setiap hari.)
- He likes to play his video games at night. (Dia senang bermain permainan
videonya saat malam)
2. Kata hubung waktu (time connectors)
Kata hubung waktu digunakan untuk menghubungkan satu kejadian dengan
kejadian lain yang berurutan secara waktu. Kata penghubung waktu dapat menggunakan
kata-kata berikut:
- After (setelah)
I go to sleep after I brush my teeth. (Saya tidur setelah menggosok gigi.)
- Before (sebelum)
She always eats breakfast before school. (Dia selalu sarapan sebelum pergi ke sekolah.)
- During (selama)
During holiday, I usually get up at 8 am. (Selama liburan, biasanya aku bangun pukul
8 pagi.)
- Since (sejak)
Since I was I kid, I always sleep with the lamps off. (Sejak kecil, aku selalu tidur dengan
lampu kamar dimatikan.)
- Until (sampai)
My younger brother always watches television in the morning until school time. (Adik
laki-lakiku selalu menonton televisi setiap pagi sampai waktunya bersekolah.)
- Then (kemudian)
I brush my teeth then wash my face. (Aku menggosok gigi lalu mencuci mukaku.)
3. Adverb of time
Keterangan waktu yang digunakan saat berbicara mengenai kegiatan sehari-hari
biasanya menggunakan in, at, atau on. Berikut adalah aturan penggunaan ketiga kata
tersebut.
a. Penggunaan kata in
Di suatu bagian hari, misalnya in the morning, in the afternoon.
Di suatu bulan tertentu, misalnya in January, in February.
Di suatu tahun, misalnya in 2018, in 2019.
Di suatu musim, misalnya in the winter, in the spring.
Di suatu periode waktu yang lama, misalnya in the twentieth century.
b. Penggunaan kata at
Di suatu jam tertentu, misalnya at one o’clock, at two o’clock.
Di suatu titik dalam satu hari, misalnya at midday, at midnight.
Di suatu waktu perayaan, misalnya at the New Year.
c. Penggunaan kata on
Pada tanggal tertentu, misalnya on 2 October 2018.
Pada suatu hari, misalnya on Sunday, on Monday.
4. Adverb of Frequency.
Adverb of Frequency adalah sebuah kata atau frasa yang mengekspresikan
seberapa sering kegiatan tersebut dilakukan oleh seseorang. Such as: Always, Almost
always, Usually, Often (frequently), Sometimes (once in a while), Seldom (hardly ever,
never). Example:
– I always go to school by car
– I usually come late
– I sometimes get a present from my father

E. Vocabularies for daily activities


 Wake up = Bangun
 Take a bath = Mandi
 Pray = Beribadah
 Brush my teeth = Menggosok gigiku
 Comb my hair = Menyisir rambutku
 Clean the house = Membersihkan rumah
 Play with my friends = Bermain bersama teman-temanku
 Water the flowers = Menyiram bunga
 Take a bath = Mandi
 Wash my face = Mencuci muka
 Eat breakfast = Sarapan
 Study at school = Belajar di sekolah
 Watch TV = Nonton TV
 Read a book = Membaca buku
 Wash my hair = Keramas
 Get dressed = Memakai baju
 Go to school = Pergi ke sekolah
 Doing homework = Mengerjakan PR
 Go to sleep = Pergi tidur
 Dinner = Makan malam
 Take a break = Istirahat
 Drink coffee = Minum kopi
 Take a nap = Tidur siang
 Lunch = makan siang

F. Tips to write daily activities


1. Make a list of everyday activities
First, you need to think about your daily activities. You can make a list of
everyday activities: wake up/get up, brush my teeth, have/eat breakfast (or
have something FOR breakfast), have a shower, get dressed, etc.
2. Structure your days
Group your tasks into the time of day that makes the most sense for when
you will efficiently complete them.
a. Morning
b. Midday
c. Evening
d. Night
3. Get Specific (Optional)
Get as specific as you want with your outline of tasks.
- 6:00: Wake up, shower
- 6:30: Breakfast, brush teeth
- 7:00: Leave the house

G. Example of daily activities


Example 1
Hi! My name is Aufa. I’m from Pemalang, Central Java. I am a college student at
English Language Education UIN Walisongo Semarang. I live with my friend at
dormitory house in Semarang, Central Java Province.
I wake up at 04.00, then I make the bed and take an ablution. Then, I take a bath
and pray subh. After that, I clean my room. Before go to campus, I already have a
breakfast. I’m studying from 8.00 a.m until 3.00 p.m. After studying, I take a bath and
change clothes. I usually play video games when I am alone at dormitory house. In the
afternoon, I wash my clothes and wash dishes. In the night I have dinner that I cooked
by myself. I have dinner at 7 p.m. After that, I study the course before and do assignment
for tomorrow. At 10 p.m., I will get sleepy and go to bed to sleep immediately
That’s all my activity starting from waking up till going to bed. Thank you.

Example 2
Hi! My name is .... . I’m from ...., (Province). I live in Semarang, Central Java
Province.
I go to school every week from Monday to Friday. I usually get up at 5 am, then
tidy up my bed. My mother usually cooks breakfast while I take a bath. After breakfast,
I go to school on foot. I spent six hours at school. Before going home, me and my friends
usually eat our lunch box together. I took a nap for two hours before doing my homework.
My mother usually allows me to play with my sisters after I finished my homework. We
usually play hide and seek or read comic books together. At night, we eat dinner together.
After that, I brush my teeth.
That’s all my activity starting from waking up till going to bed. Thank you.

H. Homework
