As a third year Law Student, you are being prepared to undertake research projects which

will lead to an award of a bachelor’s degree in Law. Identify a Social legal OR Legal
problem in your society and come up with a clear research strategy to address the
problem. Below are the tasks you should attend to.
a) Suggest the most a suitable title/topic for your proposed study/dissertation showing
both the independent and independent variables
b) Write a proper and elaborate background to the problem (1 and a half pages
minimum)
c) Write a statement of the problem for the proposed study indicated in the topic above
(Not more than half a page) d) Determine the most appropriate research a suitable
primary objective for the proposed study e) List maximum four specific objectives for
proposed study f) Provide corresponding research questions based on the specific
objectives above g) Explain the justification of the study for your proposed study (quarter
a page) h) Explain the significance of the study for your proposed study (quarter a page)
i) Come up with an appropriate literature review for the proposed study showing gaps in
existing literature and how your study will contribute to closing/bridging/addressing the
established gaps (minimum 2 pages) j) Identify and explain, clearly showing the how and
the importance of the different methods that you will employ in carrying out the study
(minimum 2 pages k) Write appropriate chapter synopsis for each of the chapters you will
cover in your study (one paragraph of 2-4 lines for each chapter)
a) Title/Topic: "Access to Justice for Marginalized Communities in Uganda: An Analysis
of Barriers and Strategies for Improvement" Independent Variable: Access to justice for
marginalized communities Dependent Variable: Barriers and strategies for improvement
b) Background: Uganda, like many other African countries, faces a number of challenges
in providing access to justice for marginalized communities. These communities, which
include women, children, people with disabilities, and rural residents, often face
discrimination and exclusion in the legal system. They may have limited access to legal
information, resources, and representation, and may be subject to cultural or societal
biases. Additionally, corruption and a weak rule of law can further exacerbate these
barriers. This problem is not unique to Uganda, but it is particularly acute in the country,
where the judiciary is perceived as being susceptible to political influence. This study
aims to investigate the barriers that marginalized communities face in accessing justice in
Uganda and to identify strategies for improving access to justice for these communities.
c) Statement of the problem: Despite efforts to improve access to justice for marginalized
communities in Uganda, many of these communities continue to face significant barriers
in accessing justice. These barriers include limited access to legal information and
resources, discrimination and exclusion in the legal system, and cultural and societal
biases. The problem is particularly acute for women, children, people with disabilities,
and rural residents. This study aims to investigate the barriers that marginalized
communities face in accessing justice in Uganda and to identify strategies for improving
access to justice for these communities.
d) Primary objective: To investigate the barriers that marginalized communities face in
accessing justice in Uganda and to identify strategies for improving access to justice for
these communities.
e) Specific objectives:
1. To identify the specific barriers that marginalized communities face in accessing
justice in Uganda
2. To assess the effectiveness of existing strategies for improving access to justice for
marginalized communities in Uganda
3. To identify best practices for improving access to justice for marginalized
communities in other countries
4. To develop recommendations for improving access to justice for marginalized
communities in Uganda
f) Research questions:
1. What are the specific barriers that marginalized communities face in accessing
justice in Uganda?
2. How effective are existing strategies for improving access to justice for
marginalized communities in Uganda?
3. What are the best practices for improving access to justice for marginalized
communities in other countries?
4. What recommendations can be made for improving access to justice for
marginalized communities in Uganda?
g) Justification of the study: This study is important because access to justice is a
fundamental human right and is essential for the protection and promotion of other
human rights. Marginalized communities in Uganda continue to face significant barriers
in accessing justice, despite efforts to improve access to justice for these communities.
This study aims to investigate the barriers that marginalized communities face in
accessing justice in Uganda and to identify strategies for improving access to justice for
these communities.

h) Significance of the study: The findings of this study will be useful for policymakers,
practitioners, and other stakeholders in Uganda who are working to improve access to
justice for marginalized communities. The study will provide a comprehensive
understanding of the barriers that marginalized communities face in accessing justice in
Uganda and will identify strategies for improving access to justice for these communities.
The study will also contribute to the broader literature on access to justice for
marginalized communities in Africa and other developing regions.
i) Literature review: The existing literature on access to justice for marginalized
communities in Uganda is limited. Studies have highlighted the barriers that marginalized
communities face in accessing justice in Uganda, including limited access to legal
information and resources, discrimination and exclusion in the legal system, and cultural
and societal biases. However, there is a lack of research on the effectiveness of existing
strategies for improving access to
justice for marginalized communities in Uganda, and on best practices for improving
access to justice for marginalized communities in other countries. This study aims to fill
these gaps in the literature by investigating the barriers that marginalized communities
face in accessing justice in Uganda, assessing the effectiveness of existing strategies,
identifying best practices from other countries, and developing recommendations for
improving access to justice for marginalized communities in Uganda.
j) Research methods: This study will employ a mixed-methods research design, using
both qualitative and quantitative methods.
The study will begin with a review of existing literature on access to justice for
marginalized communities in Uganda and other countries. This will be followed by a
field survey of marginalized communities in Uganda to collect data on the barriers that
these communities face in accessing justice.
The survey will use both quantitative and qualitative methods, including structured
interviews and focus group discussions. The data collected will be analyzed using both
descriptive and inferential statistics.
