PROJECT CARE

AN INTERVENTION TO IMPROVE THE PARTICIPATION OF

LEARNERS AT RISK OF DROPPING OUT

LONGOS CARES!
JULY 2022
S.Y. 2022-2023
Longos National High School launched and
implemented Project CARE, an intervention
program aimed to support students who
were identified as Learners at Risk of
Dropping Out (LARDO).

With a dropout rate of 6.38 percent for

elementary school students and 7.82
percent for secondary school students,
the Philippines currently has the highest
dropout rates out of all the ASEAN
nations.

The result? The program is a success. It decreased

the number of learners at risk of dropping out for
the 2021–2022 academic year from 54 to 16. WHAT HAVE BEEN DONE SO FAR?

The school has had difficulty implementing intervention programs for

the learners who have fallen behind. Although the majority of the
Longos National High School's identified LARDOs were successfully
reached and assisted by Project CARE, some learners were still left
behind. .

The researchers found that there is no one-size-fits-all strategy for

intervention after performing this study. Despite the effort the teachers
and school put forth, there were other factors that affected the
intervention. Numerous issues that learners experience in school are
connected. In fact, creating the optimum intervention for each student
requires understanding the underlying reason for having LARDOs

WHAT MAY BE DONE FURTHER?

Developing an intervention can seem challenging as it
requires funding, monitoring, and data. If the program
is planned and strategically structured, the chances of
success are significantly higher. Additionally, over
time, these initiatives and activities may enhance
students' all-around wellbeing.
